Brunch Foods

Hi there.:) New to this website and just wanted to ask some people on here questions since we are most likely going to have a brunch wedding.

1. Food: Would a buffet of something like this be okay? Made to order omelet/eggs station, fruit salad, spinach salad, bagels and cream cheese, tea sandwiches, quiche, yogurt, hashbrowns, deviled eggs, and waffles. We are both vegetarians and footing the bill for the wedding. I know people think it's inconsiderate to not have meat when you have guests, but we figure we will have a variety of food for people to choose from.

2. Beverages: Most of our guests aren't heavy drinkers so we figured only having champagne, mimosas (a pomegranate one and a traditional one as well), and bloody Mary's. I thought it would cool to also get a coffee/hot chocolate/cappuccino station, but again, most of our guests are just the standard plain old cup of coffee crowd. If we can budget for it, I would love to have a smoothie station. The typical juices, water, and iced tea will also be served.

3. Cake: What would be good cake flavors for a brunch wedding that aren't too heavy?

I think that sounds good, but maybe have a quiche with ham or some bacon, for those who eat.

That menu sounds awesome (I responded to one of your other brunch wedding posts...a brunch wedding was my initial thought, but we decided not to go with it, so I have my ideas).  You might consider having some more "special" things like cute pastries, fruit that is either exotic or cut up in fancy ways, etc.  A pancakes station where people could get fruit or chocolate chips or granola in panckaes could also be fun (I would pick that over waffles).

I think a smoothie bar would be great.  I think we are going to have a coffee bar/station, but if your guests won't want more than cream and sugar, why bother.

Don't have meat if you don't want it.  We are having a vegetarian reception, but we will also have fish (FI is from Alaska, so we are having either salmon or halibut, and we both eat fish, so it's a good compromise).  People can go one meal without.

Edited to add: For cake, I think of a checkerboard cake as being more daytime, for some reason.  You could also have a cinnamon coffee cake with frosting.

Ewurgler- We are both Jews so having any kind of pork is pretty much out of the question. I may be talked into having lox if my parents and in laws insist on it and offer to pay for that, otherwise, no meat.

Jessica- Thanks for responding to my other post as well. I think a pancake station is a better idea. If that is in the budget, I think that sounds good. The coffee cake wedding cake sounds great. We will pretty much eat any kind of cake (I won't touch cheesecake though), and most of our family loves coffee cake.

    1. I love brunch and your food ideas sound great.  I think you are fine without meat at brunch.

    2.  Your drinks sounds yummy and perfectly appropriate for brunch.

    3. I think a lighter would be appropriate for that time of day.  Maybe a lemon cake with raspberries.

    1. Sounds excellent!  I didn't even notice that meat was missing until you mentioned it...but I'm not a big meat-eater anyway.  I certainly don't think you need it, and you have eggs and plenty of protein sources.

    2. Ditto, PP, perfect for brunch.

    3.  White cake with raspberry or strawberry filling, or ditto cinnamon or lemon cake.

I'd love to go to a brunch reception--sounds delicious!

    2.  Yes.

    3.  Fruit flavored cakes would go well with a brunch buffet.  Lemon cake, strawberry cake etc.

    Uh, she said she's vegetarian.

OP, I had a vegetarian sit-down dinner reception. As long as the food is good, no one will care. Especially at brunch. And that looks like a great spread. I'm hungry!

I agree about a nice, light fruit-flavored cake. Maybe an angel food cake with various toppings (cherries, lemon curd, whipped cream).
