TGIF!

Happy Friday!  What's everyone up to this weekend?  H and I are planning on renting a Rug Doctor and cleaning carpets this weekend.  I like do get some deep "fall" cleaning done before the holidays (And when I say "the holidays" I'm not being PC, I'm actually talking about Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years).  Other than cleaning, I'm sure we'll find something going on .

So I started working out yesterday, and my heart rate wouldn't get under 200, and was up to like 230.  Come to find out, that's really dangerous.  A friend of mine who used to be a personal trainer said I should get my heart checked out before working out again.  I was thinking I'd just work out but make sure my heart rate doesn't get above 160.  I mean, that would mean going REALLY slow on the easiest level of the elliptical, but oh well.

Re: TGIF!

  • So glad it's finally Friday!  We're definitely due for a deep fall cleaning too, and really don't have an excuse not to do it since H's parents bought us the carpet cleaner off of our registry for a wedding gift (actually, they bought a different one than the one we registered for, but it's still a really nice one so I won't complain there!)  Saturday we'll watch our college football team's game, and probably make our list of what we want to go purchase off our Target registry that we didn't receive.

That's a little scary about your heart rate - be careful!  If it happens again I'd definitely get checked out by a doctor, just to make sure there's not something going on.
  • Erin, I'll be thinking about you when I'm cleaning this weekend!  We'll be together in spirit lol.

  • Sounds good! Now I definitely have to get at least SOME cleaning done :)

I will say, when we opened the gift and realized it was the carpet cleaner, I had one of those "you're definitely an adult" moments... because I realized I was super excited to have received a carpet cleaner as a gift.
  • I know what your mean!  I remember being a kid and thinking wedding gifts were SO BORING.  Now I'm all excited every time I use my food processor or new pots and pans!

  • Wild and crazy weekend happening 'round these parts (or, um, you know, not). I've got a mom's thing tomorrow. I will probably run some errands later today. I need to do laundry. Things are going to be insane, I tell ya!

Resa, you be careful! Better slow going than no-going.

I heard that Christmas drinks and red cups are back at Starbucks. There will definitely be a treat coming my way soon. I mean pumpkin spice is okay, but gingerbread latte in a red cup....ahhhhhhhh...... I'm officially in holiday craziness mode, ramped up by C's firsts! :)

  • You know, I STILL haven't gotten a pumpkin spice latte yet.  I hate coffee, but I actually like pumpkin spice.  Maybe I should try gingerbread?

Also, I'll have it known that I haven't had soda since that soda thread.  It's been like, two weeks.  That's AMAZING for me.  I miss it every single day, but I haven't given in.

  • Bibli, I left early for work yesterday so I decided to run by Starbucks and I was SO HAPPY to get my Gingerbread latte!  Definitely my favorite!

Had some kids in my last class who really just know how to get under my skin.  I'm trying parent calls and schedule changes, so we'll see what happens.  It blows my mind how many children come into the ninth grade so damaged sometimes.  Definitely praying my little head off for them and myself!

This weekend we are celebrating our anniversary!  The plan was for me to have a surprise dinner ready for H when he got home, but that's kind of fallen apart because a) he might make it home before I do, and b) last night I tried my dessert and it was a complete failure.  So I told H we were just going to have to cook together and he would be surprised a little earlier than when the food hit the table.  Then tomorrow night we have a carriage ride through downtown OKC (that I bought with a Groupon - yay!) and we're going to go out to dinner somewhere.  And then H got Monday (the actual anniversary) off so that he can vote, so I'm looking forward to spending an extra evening with him!  I'm bummed that I also can't take Monday off, but whatever.

  • Yay! on the no soda thing, Resa! It gets easier -- I can promise, 'cause I used to be just as bad!

I am a big fan of Christmas at Starbucks from the beginning, which is odd, because I generally don't do Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

Also, I meant to mention that I don't think saying "the holidays" or "the holiday season" is too PC. I think it's an understood shorthand for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

  • Happy almost-anniversary Professor!  Sounds like you and your H have a lot of fun things planned for the weekend.  And good luck with your students, I don't know how you teachers do it everyday!

I've never had a gingerbread latte, but I'll have to give that a try.  Usually those kind of drinks are too sweet for my taste, I go for the occasional latte but am more of a regular coffee with a splash of soy milk kinda girl.  The coffeeshop that I go to downtown usually has some really yummy seasonal flavored coffees, so I'll have to pick some of those up.

Resa and Bibli - good for you on cutting back soda.  I have tried many times to give it up or at least cut back, but it's SOO hard because it's always on hand at the office.
  • Our anniversary is Monday. We are going to a mystery dinner in town tomorow night and then on Sunday we are going to a bed and breakfast on a horse farm in Georgetown KY.  We hope to visit Shaker Village on Monday and have a couple nice dinners befiore we head home. Hopefully, H will get a call about a job offer.  This may finally be it.

  • No daylight savings time here! Woot!

Double woot for fun anniversary plans! Early happy anniversaries to both of you ladies!

Prof, I totally know what you mean about the brokenness of kids. It's so sad. I've also seen it across socioeconomic lines -- it shows that we really do live in a broken, broken world.

  • Happy anniversaries Prof and Debbie!  How exciting :)

Calypso, sounds like you're keeping up with running?  That's awesome!!  You really inspire me!

  • Happy anniversary, Debbie!

=) Two girls in my seventh hour decorated my white board with "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!" stuff and then made the whole class sign it -- so cute.

Erin, I'm hypoglycemic, so I like to get skinny/sugar free versions of Starbucks drinks.  I can definitely tell when they DON'T get them right.

  • Confession: Starbucks intimidates me.  I once asked for a skinny java chip frap, and they acted like I was the biggest idiot in the world and were like "you can't make a frap skinny!"  Ever since then, I just order it regular.  I try to be conscious of sugar intake, so it makes me mad!

  • I always thought they could make any drink "skinny" ... doesn't that just mean they use skim milk and the sugar-free syrup?

I'm also a little intimidated by Starbucks, so I always only order one of three things: regular coffee w/ a dash of soy milk, and a hot or iced soy caramel latte.  Yeah, I really branch out... :)
  • Erin, I guess they don't have the sugar-free syrup for every flavor, and this guy said you can't use skim milk in fraps.  I think he was wrong, but now I just don't like ordering anything fancy.  I typically get a shaken iced tea lemonade in passion flavor.  Sometimes I get it sweetened, sometimes I don't.

  • Erin, it depends on where you go, too.  Some places just use skim milk and regular syrup, others do skim and sugar-free.

  • I wish I was intimidated at Starbucks. Last Christmas, when I was pregnant, my order was a grande, half-caf, nonfat, no whip, Gingerbread latte. Yeah. I'm that girl. But I don't hit up Starbucks as often as I'd like, just to keep the budget in check.

Resa--get the passion lemonade sweetened with raspberry instead of regular. It's crazy good. I usually go for unsweetened, though. Unsweetened shaken iced tea (no lemonade) with 1/2 passion, 1/2 black is good too, especially if you're skipping the sugar.

I always get my drinks with skim milk, but always order it that way. I am wary of artificial sweeteners, so don't get/want sugar-free stuff, so skip the term "skinny."
