Oahu Videography/Cinematography

Hi All.
Like many of you, after watching a bunch of wedding videos and bawling my eyes out, I decided I need to have a videographer/cinematographer.
The thing is, I've contacted a couple of Cinematographers on Oahu and their 2012 rates are insane (I'm talking $5000 for a feature, plus an additional $1300 for SDE). This makes me sad because all the rates I saw posted on this board were more within my budget ($2000-$2500).
Has anyone been in contact with any companies that have more affordable rates for 2012? Maybe even someone new to the scene? As long as they have talent and it doesn't look like a home video I'd be good with it! I would love to have something to show my grandparents who won't be able to make it to the wedding...

Who have you already contacted?  Here's the list we were looking at.  Most are on the higher end (we are picky on video), but a few of them should still be well under $5k...that's obscene.  You could almost get StillMotion for that price!

    Kai Media
    Fisheye
    Video 21
    Clour Craft
    Image Creations
    Studio Red
    Crane Media
    Aria

Image Creations was quoting about $3800 for Prep/Ceremony/Reception/SDE/Slideshow - thats the package I am looking for.

Kai Media and Aria - well above that... Aria - for everything I listed is now around $8500!!! (Yikes) - We emailed them, telling them we wished we could have really used them, but with their rate hikes in May (almost double) its impossible. They did offer a $500 friends discount though. I know I got quotes from Kai - at least $4,000.

I know Studio Red was around $4,000 I believe? for that package and 10th letter was bordering around $3500 - $4,000.

We're also looking into Digital Expressions - but they are offering a 25% discount on Sunday weddings, which if we decide to use them will keep us relatively near budget of $3500.

Also, Crane was around $3700 for the package I mentioned.

Went to the wedding expo this weekend - I know I have info from Video 21 - but I think the rates were right around $3500-$4000 mark as well. No one stood out with cheap rates!

    HTH!

I've contacted Studio Red and Aria - both quoted me $4900 for a full feature only with the option to add on an SDE. They didn't even give an option for length of filming...I would have LOVED to have Studio Red...but that's not going to happen. They said they doubled their prices due to the "type of videos they are putting out now"...not sure what that means...

HaYnCaNdi808 & Tanq - thanks for the info...I'm gonna check out some of those companies and hopefully get something a little more within budget!

YIKES.  That's insane.  A year ago we could hardly find any studios whose work we thought was acceptable.  It's hard to imagine all of them are now $4000-$5000!    Having shot wedding videos ourselves, I know how hard it is to do (harder than photo, believe it or not), but man at $4-5k maybe I should switch industries!  :)

MaiTaiMajik - when we had our AHR, we actually posted an ad on Craigslist.  We detailed the number of hours we wanted covered, the type of environment (eg, low light) and our price.  We had about 30 photographers respond to our bid, and ended up getting some at much lower prices than they normally charge.  Perhaps that could work for you?  Might at least help uncover some lesser known artists.

I'm sure if you posted their work on this board, Brea and I would be happy to give you some feedback on the quality of their work.

Hey there! I don't know if you read my previous post before... but we love10th letter media as well.... unfortunately he was booked on our day!
We found another videographer through a knottie referral. Anyway, his name is Philip Lemoine. Videos = Amazing. He has that upbeat modern cinematography sorta thing going on. We are staying under $3k for a full day coverage with a highlight edit... plus he threw in a bunch of other stuff in the contract! Who can say no to free stuff?! So far he has been really great to communicate with and very professional with via phone and email.
    Here's a link to his videos: http://www.svp-studio.com/category/weddings/

Anyway, I also want to mention I highly DO NOT recommend Isle Media for videography. I posted a vent about them on theknot.com last month (being rude and degrading to talk to) and one of the knotties emailed me that they posted our conversation on theknot.com (which was probably edited by him anyway). Very unprofessional! Yell

OMG I was super surprised by how expensive videography is in Hawaii! My sister in law in San Diego got full day coverage for her wedding for $1500 (granted this was a few years ago). I couldn't even get the ceremony for that much. Oh well! A good thing to pass on to future knotties! We decided on just getting the ceremony and a photo session because that's all we could afford.

Also I learned that the good videographers get nabbed so fast! You must act early.

Holy $%^#!!!  We paid $1K for ours, and it may not be a Hollywood movie, but it is perfect for us!  There is no way I was gonna pay over a grand for a video....

The funny thing is, while I LOVE our video and how it is finished with the music, we had a guest who loves to video everything and he just send us Blu-Rays of all of our wedding and I am so, so in love with it!  I love the unedited parts, my husband and I were cracking up watching it last night.  I don't even remember half the night (and no, I wasn't drunk, it goes by soooo fast!), so it was great to see everything we missed!

I also recommend Philip Leomine! I've known him for years when he lived in the Bay Area, but when I started wedding planning, I heard he did wedding videography, loved his style, and booked him. Glad richnikki did, too! If you let him kno that Diana and/or Nikki sent you, he may throw in some stuff like he did for richnikki ;) We are also paying around the $2000 range and he's bringing a 2nd shooter to Maui with him. He said he'd also shoot us around the island either before or after the wedding Let us know if you decide to go with him! I also agree that he is very professional and responsive! Also, he I booking up a lot for next year, so get at him soon...

I just talked to Philip and he said to mention that I referred you to him. He just wants to know where his referrals come from, and we go a few years back, so he may also throw in a little something something!

A few reasons I chose him:
    - His pricing is good
    - He has shot a wedding at Olowalu (and other venues, just inquire). I wanted to make sure my videographer had experience at our venue...

Also, if you need more info, just PM me. I turned my notifications on so I get an email with I get a new PM. :) Thanks, ladies!

U are a crazy person!!! I have delt with Isle Media and they have been nothing but PROFESSIONAL!!! I think that you are one of their compeditors!  Get a life, and stop knocking on someone else just because they are awsome at what they do!  Here is a link to my video and it proves how amazing they are!

The entire Isle Media team had the honor of being a part of this very special wedding in Waialua in the North Shore. Healani set herself apart from all the other brides by walking down the aisle with a pair of cowboy boots on! This is a highlights video...
