Suggestions for alterations on BM dresses

I need some suggestions for someone who is in the Minneapolis area to alter my BM's dresses. I am out of state and have 3 BM in the MPLS area and need to give them some suggestions. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

We went to the WeddingWarehouse in Blaine, you can bring any dress from any store and they are very reasonable and professional...not home sewers.  They did my dress and even suggested ways to save plus did my out of town gal the same day!  I highly reccomend them  :-)

I've brought some stuff to Mighty Stitch in North Minneapolis. It looks sorta dumpy inside, but from what I've seen they do great work. And I'm going to apologize in advance in case this comes out wrong, but there's no language barrier which has made it easier to communicate with them. I'll probably bring my dress there.

This is slightly off-topic, but can these people who do alterations typically do things like add straps to an existing dress?  I ask because I'm looking for an off-the-shoulder neckline, but I want the straps to cover my upper arms.  It's really hard to find what I'm looking for in my price range (the one I found is 3x my budget), so I'm probably going to have to have it created.  TIA!

I have an excellent seamstress from Belarus who is in the Plymouth area.  She generally charges $20 an hour and is usually done within 2-3 hours of anything I have brought her.  She does work out of her home though - so it is not a fancy shop but she has worked miracles on things I have brought her.  She has added straps, modified sleeves completely and sewn complete outfits from scratch for me ( i have some 1950's patterns).  Tonya Gorelik - can pm me if you need her info.  She loves to chat and really is a sweet woman.  She has also rushed things for me if I've been in a bind.

I highly recommend Louise Kegley, although she is on the eastern side of St. Paul.  She can do just about anything to a dress (some knotties have had her change the back from zipper to corset or take it in 6 sizes).  Her prices are really reasonable, too.  My dress was hemmed, loose beads re-stiched, cups added, and crinoline taken in for $115.  She also steamed my dress for me.  It's best to call her though...she's very sporadic with email.  PM if you want her number.

Thanks for the tip, Bellaxathene!  I'm hopefully going to purchase my dress at some point in the next 6 weeks.  I haven't even tried any on, but I'm assuming I'm going to need some fairly heavy work done, going by what's currently available in the stores.  The current trend of strapless or skimpy straps really doesn't suit me.  If I do end up needing someone to alter, I'll PM you.
