Best Instrument for outdoor music

Hi,

We are getting married May 12, 2012 by the lake in Deep Creek, MD. I am obsessed with live ceremony music. Unfortunately my family friends cannot participate. I'm looking into local universities for students. Any suggestions of the best type of instrument to ask about? Did you have live music, and how was the sound quality outside?

How large is your wedding? Most instruments need amplification, which requires an electrical outlet. The only exception I can think of is a brass band, they will play loud enough on their own.

Really, you can use anything. We had a string trio for the ceremony and a brass band immediately after. Other ideas, acoustic guitar, harp, keyboard, really it depends on what you like.

We had a trumpet, bass, saxophone, and I think a snare drum.... I forget. I love the sounds of classic jazz band.

OMG, I went to this wedding and she had a harpist playing. It was the MOST BEAUTIFUL music ever. I am considering doing the same for my wedding.

My aunt is a harpist and she played at our outdoor wedding, no amplification necessary. She has played at a number of venues and said she has never needed amplification at any of them, though she does like to scout the site beforehand to find the spot that will allow the sound to carry.
