Teeth Whitening

I really want to do this.  Is anyone doing this?  What whitener are you using?  When are you starting or when did you start?

Re: Teeth Whitening

  • I'm curious about this too.  It's something I'd like to try...

  • I started last night.  I'm just using crest white strips...I think those are the ones that my dentist recommended (at least out of the ones you can buy in the store).  There are 20 strips in the package...so it'll do every night right up to the Friday before my Sunday wedding.

  • We're doing Crest White Strips Advanced White 3D (or whatever the super long name is).  FI and I bought a large package from Sam's Club this weekend to share.  I'll probably do 7 days of it (once a day) since my teeth don't need it too badly and FI will use the rest of the pack (there's 21 days total).  Some packs are twice a day, others are once a day.  I need the once a day ones because I can't use them in the morning (no time).

The only thing with it, is that sometimes it causes sensitivity in your teeth, so I would recommend using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth while you use the strips.
  • I normally use a really inexpensive drugstore one..you can get it a cvs walgreens walmart..its called Plus White 5 minute whitening gel. Sometimes you can find a kit that has the mouthpiece and that's the best way to do it. I think its between 5 and 10 dollars for a tube and I only do it once in a while and always get so many compliments. The directions say for really stained teeth leave on for 15 minutes. I never do that! I plan on doing it probably once a week from now to the wedding and that's more times than I usually do it in a year.

  • I still really want to do this. I drink a lot of coffee. FI smokes, but I don't think he cares so much LOL I'm glad you started this discussion, Cathy, for input on those that have some experience with this!

  • I want to, but I can't use the strips. They really kill my teeth. They get so sensitive after 2 or 3 days that I can hardly eat :(. Going to get it done at the dentist is too expensive. I'm over budget already. Oh well! Luckily the lip color I've picked for the day really makes my teeth appear whiter than they actually are.

  • I've got the Crest 3D whitestrips and the toothpaste. I've been using the paste for a month or so, and am planning on starting the strips sometime this week. RIght not I only have a week's worth, so I'll see how they look and decide if I want to do it again the week leading up to my wedding or what.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

I also bought a pack at this weekend (at BJs).  FI wants to share it too, but I think I want them all lol!  I have heard from friends whose parents are dentists that these white strips are as effective as the professional whitening treatments.

  • I went to the Dentist and did Zoom. It worked really well. But there was a little sensetivity during it and for a few hours after. Some people it is painful the entire time though. Mine just hurt during the last minute. And then I got "zings" for about 4 hours after. It also cost $400. I had tried just using the crest toothpaste and that made a difference too.

If you are having any sensetivity with any of the whitening techniques, try using sensetive toothpaste. Before I could do the zoom the dentist put me on a prescription sensetive toothpase for 2 weeks and said to continue using it as I have sensetivity.

  • I've been using the Optic White toothpaste and mouthwash for about 3 weeks.  So far, I've seen a pretty decent improvement.  I'll probably step up to the strips the week or so before the wedding.  We'll see.

  • I got the Crest strips for us.  It's the kind where you do it for 10 days.  I had to twist FI's arm a little and give him some crap about it being a bonding experience.

  • We bought the strips too - but I went cheap and just did the cvs brand. It says "whitens in 3 days" and has 20... i figured we would split it and do it for 10 days each... I'm going to start tonight.
  • I keep trying to do them. I keep forgeting LOL!

  • Crest Whitestrips, at the recommendation of my dentist-cousin. She (as well as my actual dentist) said to brush with Sensodyne for a few weeks before starting, because my teeth are also very sensitive.

Haven't started yet, but fingers crossed they'll be sparkly white for the big day! :)
  • anybody find any coupons for the crest whitening strips? I can only find rebates.

  • I'm doing something I found on pinterest, and it's working really well! I'm an obsessive Earl Grey tea drinker, and my teeth definitely showed it.

Here's the thing I'm doing - it's basically brushing your teeth once a week with a mixture of baking soda, water, and hydrogen peroxide. Works really well! My teeth haven't felt sensitive, and I've noticed a difference after doing it twice! http://pinterest.com/pin/174514554281703919/
  • My good friend is a dental hygenist and also said that rinsing with 3% hydrogen peroxide also helps to whiten. I'll be doing this, as well as using a professional gel in trays from the dentist. FI is also doing the gel.
