Save the Date

I am new to all of this, I just got engaged on Sunday. But I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for really reasonable save the date cards? I am on a very tight, shoestring budget. I may not do save the dates at all, but I wanted to at least look. Thank you!

You might be able to find templates online to print your own. We are using photo magnets from Vista print and I think they are $1 each.

I'm not sure about etiquette, but you could also send out the STD via e-mail. This would be free.

I second Vista Print.  If you sign up for their emails you get offers for free items all the time.  You can also upload your own design.  I used postcards for save the dates and got 100 free with the email deal.  I paid to upload a design (~$5) and then for express shipping (~$10).  If you use regular shipping you could probably get 100 for less than $10.  Plus postage for postcards is less expensive than regular cards.

If you are on a tight budget and do not have a lot of out of town guests I would forgo the save the dates in my opinion  - even if you can get them fairly cheap its still saving money you could use elswhere. HTH!

I totally agree with Eboix.  You don't need to do save the dates.

If you are doing a destination wedding or a majority of your guests are out of state then maybe it would get a good idea, but otherwise I would just let it spread via word of mouth or email.

Send save the dates via email. :)  That's what I had planned, but FI wants magnets.

Vistaprint for us as well! We got 40 magnets and the 100 free postcards and spent $30! Also, we sent out emails to everyone. Gave magnets to the "adults" who don't check emails much and would appreciate our photo on their fridge reminding them of our wedding and then postcards to everyone else!

We weren't planning to send out STDs other than the emails, but we got such a great deal from Vistaprint that we just went ahead and did it!
