money is tight

Money is tight right now for us, we've cut back a lot on the wedding. I have the option of keeping my current menu with the caterer which I love, or choosing another meat selection and saving approximately 500 dollars. FI told me to decide and i just cant decide whether it's worth 500 bucks to compromise on the menu we have created. Should I simply cut it and be done with it, or is 500 dollars not worth it in the big picture?

EDIT: It's going from a soy-ginger tri-tip to some sort of chicken... i have a pasta dish for vegetarians and the other dish is a balsamic pork tenderloin, i just feel that a chicken dish and a pork dish would be too similar

  • I'd save the $500. Chicken and pork are different enough to be interesting selections on their own, and the pasta dish offers a potential third option, so I think you're fine.

Your guests won't regret a choice they never had, but you may regret not having the $500 to put towards other things or simply to save for an emergency.

[QUOTE]I don't think chicken and pork are too similar. One is red meat and one is white meat. Plus, those who don't eat pork have... chicken or pasta. I actually like that choice better. Some people don't eat red meat at all and might want the chicken.

Remember those "Pork...the other white meat" commercials?

I say save the $500. They're similar, but not too similar.
  • I'd definitely save and go for the chicken. The soy ginger thing sounds gross and I'd be bummed if I was served that (I'm picky about eating things with weird names that I can't identify, but that's just me).

I don't think chicken and pork are too similiar, especially depending on how they are prepared. Plus you have the added benefit of saving a bunch of money!
  • Tri-tip is a cut of beef, just FYI since some of you didnt know what that was

And? It's not white meat. The pork industry wanted to identify with white meat for a while so people would assume it was healthier and less fatty than traditional red meat.

  • Take the $500 and save it - chicken and pork are great options and not too similar at all. Get your hair done or spend it on the honeymoon...

  • Save the money. Pork is definitely red meat, and many people don't like it, so having chicken as an option would probably be better for your guests. Although the tri tip does sound good. How much would you save if you swapped the pork for chicken?
  • Switch and save the $500. That can go a long way.

This is exactly what I wanted to say, but worded better. $500 can go a long way.
