Bridal Shows - were they worth it?

Were they worth the time to go?

Where I live and where we're getting married only have them in January, but I heard on the radio there's one halfway between me and my 'rents in a month and a half, and one in the town my folks live in like 3 weeks after that.  I thought about seeing if my parents wanted to go (or maybe my mom to one and stepmom to another one?) and it would be a perfect opportunity for me to bounce ideas off of them and get to talk to someone besides FI and you lovely ladies about the wedding for hours on end where it's still considered completely socially acceptable :)

Re: Bridal Shows - were they worth it?

  • i would go just to see whats out there and get ideas.  id go in a heart beat
  • I went to 2 shows and then my mom went to one for me. I got a lot of good information and ideas. I think they are worth it.
  • Personally, i dont care much for them. I only went bc MOH wanted to go and I ended up winning a GC that I cant even use.

  • I went to one and it was pretty fun. Good to get ideas. I'll probably go to another one in the Fall now that I have a better idea of what we're doing.

    Life is good today.
  • I really feel like I would only go for inspiration, but I don't want to be harassed (that's what extra e-mails and DSL phone numbers are for, right?).  We aren't getting married in either of those cities...although we may have an AHR in or near one so there's always that.  I don't know, we'll see.

  • I go for inspiration, see if there are any deals from vendors I dont have, eat cake :) and sign up for contests. I have a friend who won her honeymoon. I set up an contest address for this purpose and when they call me, tell them I'm no longer intrested. I only plan to go to about 3-4 more, if that.

  • I think they are fun! But you definitely need to make labels with your wedding email and your real phone number off by a digit, so it looks like an honest mistake :-P go for the contests, the inspiration and the free food and drinks!

  • I love them!

I went to one at a Ritz-Carlton before I was engaged just to get ideas for two friends' weddings that I'm in and for my friend's sister's wedding. The fashion show was seriously beautiful and they had a lot different food to taste, champagne, photobooths, and gorgeous vendor set ups.

I also went to one after I was engaged at a Marriott with my mom, sister, and FI. The fashion show was really fun and my FI and I got to go on stage for a game but the formalwear was God-awful! That one had wine tasting and a little bit of food and booths for a lot of local venues. We won a couple of prizes but nothing we are going to use.

They were both really fun and I hope to go to a couple of more over the next year just to see the latest wedding stuff, but since we already have a lot of our vendors lined up they haven't actually been help to us in terms of planning.

  • I read on another TK board that bridal shows were not really worth it, so I decided that I didn't really care to go to one... then my mom texted me a few weeks ago, really excited about the upcoming Bridal Bazaar here in San Diego, and said she wanted to go! FI's stepmom has been bugging me about it too. So I figure, why the H not. I will make an email account to give out if I choose, and use the time to hang out with my family and talk about wedding stuff. Hopefully I will get some cool ideas or inspiration, or maybe win something!
