Men's wedding bands

Could you guys indulge me and tell me how much your man's wedding band cost?  We found one that we both really like. it's a Christian Bauera and expensive.  It's about 1500.  Platinum with a small rectangle diamond off the the side of the ring. Not huge or bling bling but he is a bigger guy so he wants a wide ring which is where the cost is.   Platinum was actually cheaper than gold go figure.  We talked them down from 1900.  I called them back and are going to try again to see how low they will go on it.  The plain bands we saw from other sources were still in the hundreds.  So am I crazy to get him a ring i know heloves or shouls I make him find something to settle for that is cheaper?

If he loves it and y'all can afford it, I say go for it.  Market price of platinum is lower than gold right now, so it being less expensive then a gold ring isn't surprising.

Where are you at in NC?  Diamonds Direct carries Christian Bauer rings and normally have awesome prices!  DH's ring was MUCH cheaper there than at several other jewlery stores we went to (I don't remember the actual cost of his ring).  I recommend visiting or maybe even calling a Diamonds Direct to compare prices.  There are stores in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Birmingham.  Heck, even if you can't actually get to a DD you can use their quoted price to bargin with the jewler you are using.    P.S. -DD even gave us 10% off cards to use later.

I friend gave me 10% coupon for DD since that's where we found the ring :). I am just hoping they will let us use it since technically it's not for me.

Can we afford it is relative.  People say you aren't supposed to go into debt for a wedding but a bit is going to have to go on the credit card. I can pay it off in a year so it's not a huge deal to me but i guess i just needed a second opinion.

I would look around a little more, but thats just me. 1500 seems a lot of a band, but again, thats just me. DH got his band from Jareds. Its a scott Kay and was around 300?? Its beautiful and he LOVES it. We also looked all around and almost got a more expensive one, but with our budget as tight as it was, he decided to look a little more and then he found the one he's now wearing.

With this said though. . .don't settle by any means. Maybe just get a lowest price you can, and look a little more 'just to see'

DH wasn't sure about paying a lot for his ring but I told him to look at it this way: you're going to wear it for the rest of your life, so if you divide the price by the next what 50 years, its really not that much; and wouldn't you want to get something you really like and will wear for that long?

    aww :)!!

We've been to Jared's and Kays.  DD had the best selection of rings we liked by far.  I might check our Baileys though I heard they are expensive.  I really don't know anywhere else to look.

I KNOW!! :) Its exciting! Im in the process of posting pictures on FB so if you aren't a friend, you can add to see :)

I told DH the SAME thing. He was about to settle for a plain band, but I could tell it wasnt really what he wanted, he just wanted to save money. I figured "I got my gorgeous engagment ring" why can't he have his pick on his band?

Def. check out DD though! :)

this is kindof where I am at.  I don't understand how some of the rings with all these diamonds on them are cheaper but..?!?!  He needs an 8mm ring which i guess is considered big.  that's a bulk of the cost.

DH did not want any diamonds on his since he is a police officer... He got a titanium band from Diamonds Direct for $200.   Perfect price for us :)

That's what I mean.  The affordability question means different things to different people, and if you can fit that into your budget then I don't think it's a problem.  If you can find the same thing cheaper elsewhere, that's awesome, if not, then get what he's willing to wear forever.

FI got his white gold band from Reed's. It was regularaly $250 and we got it for $199. You may want to check them out. They had pretty decent prices and had a good sale going on.

If the price is within your budget - I would go for it if he likes the ring.  After all I'm sure he spent much more on your engagement ring and I would feel bad asking him to settle for less of a ring when you get two (or at least that's how I felt!)!  My DH's ring was around $1k (he looked at one w/ a diamond but ultimately just went with a platinum band).  Like jrstrude said - he'll be wearing it for a very long time!

(we got ours through whiteflash.com - they are fabulous, have good prices and that's where DH also got my engagement ring).

I'm only looking to spend less than $100 on my guy's band. He doesn't want anything flashy or fancy or anything. Just a plan titanium band. He's not very big on the idea of a ring, but I'm working on that. ;)

I think if your fiancee loves it & you can afford it, go for it! I would recommend maybe shopping around a little bit to see if you can get something similar for less (because $1500 seems like a lot to me), but I'm a cheap skate.

I know a lot of people probably will give me a "Are you crazy, girl?" face for this one, but I bought my wedding band on Ebay - I got .30 karot white gold for $94. Diamonds were SI and rated a G in color. So if you are brave like me, you could try looking on there. I bought from a diamond wholeseller,  not just a random person selling their ring, so I trust it a bit more. I'll just have to get it resized by a local jeweler.

    Wedding band shopping is exciting!

Thanks for all the advice.  I am going to ask for 1000 which was over my wish budget but was within my reality budget. the worst is they can say no right.

I am going to check out the other places as well.

We went the cheap route - we look at a lot of jewelers but found DHs ring on ebay for $120 for a 5 mm white gold band.  It looks great and I think we got a great deal on it.  Do you have an estate jewelry place by you?  Sometime you can find some unique pieces there.  We have Perry's in Charlotte and they always have tons of stuff since they buy it from people.

Reliable Loan is also a great place to shop for jewelry in Raleigh.  I don't know if they carry the brand you're looking for, but I do know they carry Benchmark rings, which has some interesting bands. They're downtown on North Wilmington, so parking can be a challenge, if you don't work there.

haha - we got mine and his off of ebay.  I was really happy w/what I got considering the price.  By the time we got to the bands we were so tired of spending money I didn't really care what they looked like.  You can always upgrade later <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

BS... I work in an industry with guys selling tractor trailers and handling large truck service, SEVERAL of them have bands with diamonds, and you'd get punched in the face if you dared to call them queens.

If FI loves the band, i say go for it. We really splurged on mine, both platinum with very good quality diamonds, spent WAY more than we would have liked. I never plan on upgrading my ring, im going to wear this set for life, so I figured to hell with it, you only live once. Just make sure, make SURE, to have the ring(s) insured, this way if he loses it somehow, it's replacable.
  • edited December 2011
PS - We made up for it by getting DH a titanium band for $100, since he could care less about what's on his finger.
  • edited December 2011
We love Russ' band, very classic, white gold. I am kicking myself for not having ordered platinum or some other metal. I actually meant to and when I went to pick up the rings I surprised myself. Oops.. but anyhow, it was under 300. This was at Diamond's Direct. At the same time I know my brother-in-law's wedding band was in the many many thousands... Never in a million years can I see spending that on a mans ring.
