Loopy, that's awesome! My SIL did that last year and she said it was an amazing experience. We were just talking about it today--she said the worst part was the camping, the walking was easy!
September, I would be annoyed with renovations too. I don't have the patience for them.

TJ, I've seen you tweeting about those and now I want to make some, badly, but I made cookies n' cream cupcakes the other day and we have about a bajillion of those left to eat first. Not that that's a bad thing.
Loopy, the heat would suck. Lots of water!

Our kitchen reno lasted 3 weeks... We had a spare fridge in the basement and moved the stove around the room depending on what part we were working on so we were semi-functional... we still pretty much ate take-out from every restaurant around, leftovers from said take-out or lunchmeat sandwiches for 3 weeks straight.
Thanks, roxy. It's just so, so sad. It has been really emotional for us, as newlyweds, to see how incredibly attentive and loving DH's uncle has been through this process.

Brie, they are super fast and super easy. And super inexpensive, which is important to us and our grocery budget right now. I think I'm out of touch with grocery prices from shopping on base, though - we went to pick up some cake mix & stuff from a regular grocery store we were passing yesterday and I refused to buy them. Boxes of cake mix are about $.90 on base and frosting is between $1 and $1.50.
So far we've had:
Red velvet, no frosting - my first experience with red velvet cake at all. I don't like it.
German chocolate, pecan coconut frosting - amazing, Buddy's favorite.
White cake, lemon frosting - so so so good, my favorite. They taste like those lemon Girl Scount cookies.
It takes about 5 minutes to mix them, 15 minutes to cook them, and they cool super fast to be frosted. One box makes about 24 cookies, depending on how successful you are with even-sized dough balls.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same. Blog

I've been experimenting with different flavors of cake mix and frosting.
