Speaking of price increases...

Has anyone been following the price increase on diamonds?  Will anyone be getting a new appraisal?  We just ordered my wedding band on Thursday and we think we're going to get my ring reappraised when my band gets appraised..

Supposedly the value has gone up about 40%?

Let's face it; the diamond plus the gold that's holding it.  It's all gone crazy.

You're not kididng.. both of my rings are platinum but the prices between gold and plat weren't an extreme difference since gold keeps going up.  I just can't believe how insane the prices have gone.

That's true! Platinum and gold are very close at this point. Diamonds have absolutely increased however they will always increase for as long as they remain a popular choice. Im not sure how close your original appraisal was to what the actual purchase price is. To be on the safe side, you can always get a "second opinion appraisal." There's nothing wrong with doing that. :o)

Dont forget, unless you go to a trust jeweler that you or someone you kow has dealt with before, be sure o have the appraisal done in front of you. I don't trust anyone with my ring, other then my jeweler. That little rascal doesnt leave my site :o)

You're SO right... you have to go to someone you trust.  It's so easy to get ripped off esp in this economy.  My inlaws have been dealing our jeweler for about 15 years.  My ering was made custom by him & he gave my fiance an amazing price... & the appraisal price is $6400 over what he paid.  He is making my wedding band now and the price he gave us was great (considering the rise in prices) for what we are getting.  That little guy won't be leaving my finger either, lolllll

Shoebie-  you guys did the right thing... The earlier, the better!  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-kiss.gif" border="0" alt="Kiss" title="Kiss" />

We picked out our wedding bands pretty early and I paid for them immediately knowing that precious metals and diamonds would continue to rise ( I'm in finance so this is constantly in front of me). Good call on mentioning this. I have to sit down and reevalulate my policy on my wife's engagment ring. Her mother is no longer in the business so I won't have the hook up that I use to have and without it I probably couldn't have afforded my wife's ring at the time I bought it.
