last night at work, i responded to a cardiac arrest. the pt was young, and had children in the house. her condition was irreversible, and we could have pronounced her in the house, and left her there. But, i didnt want the kids to see their mom dead on the floor, so i told my partner we had to treat her and take her to the hospital to be pronounced.
while i was intubating (its a procedure where we stick an instrument into a persons mouth to open the airway as wide as possible, and get down right into their mouth, look inside and pass a tube into the lungs to breath for them) I was looking into her mouth and before i could move a combo of GI fluid and Saliva splashed out and went right into my eye.
When we got back to the ER, i flushed it, got a tetanus and had blood work drawn. So far everthing has coe back negative (yay!) but my eye is all red and irritated and then theres the risk of developing a cellulitis from the tetanus.
Im askig for VIBES that everything comes back clean, my eye recovers, no nasty cellulitis develops in my arm, and I dont have to go on retro-virals.
