Meeting with Photographers

I'm hoping to start meeting with photographers in the next few weeks.  I am honestly overwhelmed by all the different photographers and I am not sure what my questions should be when meeting with them.

I am hoping that I click with one of them right away which will make the decision that much easier.  Any good questions or things to consider when meeting with them?  TIA!

    We asked about:
    - printability of the images after the wedding (we get a high res disc with our package - check!)
    - two photographers (all packages come with two photogs - check!)
    - contingency plans in case of, god forbid, a photographer has to cancel (ours has a solid one in place)
    - does the photog carry insurance? (ours does)

Have fun with your vendor meetings!

Make sure you state that you want the writes to your photos (both engagement and wedding) and a cd with all your photos on them. If you dont get this in your package it will cost hundreds to get your photos after your wedding.

Just to clarify, you just need the copyrights to your photos, you don't need the rights to them.  If you own the rights, then you'd be able to sell them for profit.  Why would you need that?  :-)  All you need is the copyrights and to get the images on discs, so you can print your pics anywhere you like.  Good luck!

I found during our research that a lot of photographers offer complimentary engagement sessions but when we looked at the contracts it turned out the package didn't include the images.  Not sure why people would want an Engagement session and then not want the images.

Check for references of 'proofs' and 'images' as many photographers offer proofs which include their logo or watermark on your pics.  We were able to negotiate and have our images (no logo) included in our package, we also asked that our contract include their approval for us to use our pics on Facebook if we wanted to.

Hope this helps, the photographer was the hardest decision for me but you will feel great once you have made your final decision :)
