Ok, here we go. My sister in law has been trying to get pregnant and plans on havng a baby within the next year. My question is, if she does end up getting pregnant around my wedding date, when do you think we should look at dresses? I would hate to have a size 4, but then have her balloon up before the wedding. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!!!

I know someone who was a pregnant bridesmaid and was told by the bridal shop to buy a few sizes larger at the initial fitting. They promised her she would fit in the dress for the wedding. Well, she didn't fit in it. The store refused to help. She had to buy two dresses and pay for one to be rushed. I don't want to worry you, but I can see why you're concerned. In this case, she knew that she was pregnant when they went dress shopping.

If you're not sure if she'll get pregnant, you might want to pick your dress and your store and then see how long you can wait before getting her dress. An empire waist might be a bit more flexible down the line.

Are you set on having everyone in matching dresses? If you can plan on getting something off the rack close to your wedding, you'll know if it will fit.

I am not sure on having everything match; I just want family and friends there. Plus, I don't even know if she will end up getting prego. Just something that we discussed last night. If she does, off the rack will probably be our best bet. I have heard some horror stories like the one you mentioned about dresses.

I wouldn't sweat it out just yet, your wedding isn't until next year, but off the rack would deff. be your best bet.

They make dresses specifically for pregnant bridesmaids, so I suggest that you decide on a matching color for everyone but different styles. When she chooses her dress, she should get something that is stretchier fabric, empire waist, and draped loosely over the stomach. There are dresses like this that can be worn loose if she doesn't get pregnant but would also cater to a baby bump if she does. I also definitely suggest she wait till only about 6 months in advance to buy. That way she will know whether she is already pregnant and if she gets pregnant after that, she won't get too big before the wedding. Here are some options I think are great:
