XP Cash gifts and thank you notes

I got a bunch of cash gifts for my shower and I have been working on the thank you notes. I dont know a apporiate way to say thank you for the cash...
Like if you got a toaster you would say, "thank you so much for the toaster! I love it and can't wait to try it out." Or something lol. But what do you say when someone gave you cash? I come from a family where we really dont talk about money, at all. Its considered incrediably rude. Like at my shower, I didn;t want to open the gifts that were just cards but my FSIL kept telling me to, so i just opened then held them close to me and close the card quickly. I dont know we just dont talk about money lol, its probably werid.

Anyway, I feel like its rude to just say, :thanks for the cash". How do i word it?
Thank you so much!!

Re: XP Cash gifts and thank you notes

  • What I did was "thanks for the generous gift of money! we are going to use it for..."

For us it was towards rent in our new place / towards things we need to get started in the new place / etc.

Then I thanked them for coming and say how great it was to see them and how I look forward to / hope to see them at the wedding (or say we'll miss them at the wedding but know they will be there in spirit or something like that).

  • I would just say 'generous gift' - they know they gave you money - and then maybe even talk about how you are very happy to be able to put it toward your first home, or whatever you're saving/spending for (something that lets them know they have helped you invest in your new life together.)

  • Same as all the other PPs. You say thanks for the generous gift, say what you're planning to use it for, then talk about how awesome they are. :)
  • I agree with PP, but don't tell them you will spend it on groceries or a new swimsuit.  Focus on "couple" items such as household items, trips, or a house.  Even if you don't use it directly for that, I think that's what people like hearing.
