paper cones- which do you like?

The one of the left is made out of a paper doilies and the one is made out of scrapbook paper- its more navy than it photographs with my smart phone.

I like the look of the lace doilies, but its more delicate and I'm worried about them standing up for our outdoor ceremony (these are for rose petals to be tossed at us after the ceremony) and will be hung from the back of the chairs before the ceremony. What do you all think?

  • I like the lace ones too.  If you're worried about them being strong enough you can line them in with paper in your wedding color.  It doesn't need to be heavy duty just something that will help keep it shape.

  • You could do the scrapbook and then attach doilies to the top for a layered look. May get the best of both worlds but it will take more time.
  • I really like the lace doilies as well, but I agree, they may be too delicate. When you separate the doilies to get just one, the one you are left with his really flimsy. Whatever you use to hang it may rip the paper.

If it were me I'd probably do what Pburke2010 said: make them out of the scrapbook paper, then line it with the lace doilie. Yes it's more work, but then you'd have the best of both. You could punch holes in the scrapbook paper and put the ribbon or whatever you are using through that for hanging, and it would hold up better.

  • I like the doilie cone, too. I'm not very crafty, but I think you can decoupage them to make them sturdier. You should post this on the DIY board.

  • I would definitey do what a previous poster suggested and layer the scrapbooking paper with the dolly. It would create a layered look, and that way you get to use both!
  • The lace doilie.
