Re: QOTD 7/5

• I briefly worked for a mortgage servicer around the same time the economy fell. I called people who were late on their mortgage to try and collect payments. It was terrible. I got cussed out on an hourly basis, and if someone simply didn't have the money, there was nothing I could do to try and help them. I only worked there for 6 months, but it taught me a lot about the do's and don't's of buying a home. I was also trained in mortgage lending, which helped tremendously when we purchased our own home.

• I worked in a Maximum Security MALE prison as a storekeeper. Inmates made out a list of items they would like..we sold sodas honeybuns soap anything almost. We would in turn 'sell' and pass out the goods to them. The job wasn't hard..it was actually quite easy BUT..I was locked inside a cage with murderers and rapists and kidnappers and God only knows what! I was only 21 and so they really could be crude! I hated the environment. They would say nasty things and stuff. I just wasn't cut out to deal with that!

• I was a patient care associate in the vascular surgery unit of a hospital with an excellent vascular group.

I thought I loved it at the time. Now I think vascular surgery is gross.
• My current job. I am the administrative assistant for a Town Supervisor. While the pay and benefits are good, dealing with politician's and seeing how my tax money is spent, makes me want to strangle my boss on a daily basis.

• My current job. It's a call centre/answering service. I get screamed and yelled at continously about everything from water heaters to dead pets (yes seriously). It's a bullsh*t job, but they are flexible with school. I"m going to be hightailing out of there soon, me thinks.

• I worked at Sears for two and a half months when I was in grad school. To this day, it's the only job I've ever just up and quit. I couldn't stand the stupidity any longer, LOL.

• The job I had working for an accountant. I swear the man was bipolar because what you did well once day you were reprimanded for the next. He constantly placed job ads to replace me but then never did. He made my life hell for almost a year before I just couldn't take it anymore and quit. He'd pick favourites too so for about 2 months I couldn't do anything wrong, and then about 10 months I coudln't do anything right. You never knew where you stood with him.

This sounds exactly like the boss at my worst job, especially the bolded part. I honestly do believe that she had some type of mental disorder for some of the same reasons. She would yell and scream and send nasty emails to the staff, call people names, question whether any of us had graduated from law school, etc. And then the next day she was your best friend. On top of that, she was so disorganized that I was working until 8, 9 at night on a good night and she would text us on holidays, weekends, etc. It was a nightmare. At least it made me appreciate my current job.

• Worst job I had was at Bealls, it's a Florida only retail store, clothes, shoes, etc. the management was horrible and the old ladies that worked there were just as rude. I worked whatever they wanted which was usually nights and weekends. They wanted to move me to the shoe department permanately which I hated and told them I would quit. It was on the schedule the next day so I walked in told the manager I quit and walked out. That is the only job I ever quit and walked out like that.

• My worst job was probably when I worked summer camp at the Y. The kids weren't really behaved and there were no consequences. It also didn't help that I didn't have a position for the fall yet and I was stressed out about finding work. It probably wasn't that bad but it was at a bad time of my life.

I did love that I got a nice tan from being out at the pool every day.

• As a summer job one year, I worked at an animal hospital. It was horrible. On my first day, I received a 40 page booklet of rules, including some normal ones you'd expect but also some outlandish ones, including no glasses, only contacts. My favorite though was that they wanted me to cut my hair! I could understand technicians needing to pull back their hair, but cutting my hair for a front desk job?! Needless to say, I lasted two days! To this day, my friends and I still laugh about that booklet.

That sounds absolutely terrible! I don't know who would be cut out to deal with that!

The worst job I ever had was in the basement of the university library. I sat at a desk for hours at a time, alone, only seeing other people when my boss was in or a grad student came to pick up his or her thesis from the bindery. The work was boring, repetitive, and the ONLY perks were that I could listen to my headphones, and I saw all of the new books as they were coming in, so I got first dibs if I wanted to check something out.

• The worst job i've ever had was at Home Depot. I started out there as a cashier, was working there fulltime and attending college part time. After about 8 months they decided to move me to the Plumbing Dept, in which I had to take these training courses so I somewhat knew what I was talking about when trying to help customers. Some days it wasn't too bad but other days it just sucked because it was my job to ask everyone I came across if they needed help with anything, so the customer would explain their problem and I would give them a deer-in-headlight look and say sorry I will have to get someone else to help you. An example of my plumbing dept extravaganza...one weekend they were having a sales event and I had to help a coworker in the dept do Toilet Demos where the specific toilet could flush golf balls, that part wasn't bad, explaining and answering questions about toilets just wasn't for me.

• Unfortunately I've had a nice little string of bad jobs, from working call center customer service for a bank, returns cashier at Home Depot, but the absolute WORST was working as a Housekeeper for a Fairfield Inn & Suites. Its amazing how dirty and disgusting people are when its not their own home. The hours sucked, the pay was below minimum wage, and like I said people are just gross.
