Wedding at altitude?

I'd like to get married in Vail or Beaver Creek but am concerned about the altitude since most of my guests/family is from the east coast at sea level.  Any thoughts or recommendations?

Re: Wedding at altitude?

  • I'm a Colorado native. It usually takes my sea-level friends at least 24 hours to fully acclamate. It depends how healthy & fit they are I think. Some friends of mine parents come out frequently and her Mom gets bad headaches the first day, and that's just in Denver. Just tell your sea level guests to be prepared, bring Advil and stay hydrated. I think they'll be fine and you'll have the gorgeous high altitude wedding of your dreams.
  • We got married up in the mountains a few years ago.  All of our family is from the east & west coast.  No one had any problems adjusting to atlitude as we instructed our older guests to come into Denver a day early, spend some time sightseeing, etc and then head to the mountains after they were somewhat aclimatied.  We also reminded everyone to drink lots of water & provided water bottles at all of our wedding weekend events!

Good luck.  A wedding in Vail or Beaver Creek would be beautiful!!!
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • Thanks so much for your response.  On another note, do you think the 4 hr flight from the east coast + 2 hr drive to the mountains is too much for just one weekend?  Did all your out of town guests have to take Friday and/or Monday off from work?  My mother is concerned about getting everyone out there for such a short time.  Thank you!!!
