    I workout after work, but I think I'd like to get back to working out in the mornings because I have a digestive condition that makes cardio much easier for me in the morning.

    Pitbull and fun hiphop.  I love the latest Don Omar song.
    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?
    Pull ups, running, and single leg wall squats. Hate em all.
    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?
    To get into a two-piece suit, as I mentioned before (now that I think of it-I think this was a question before...whoops-sorry!) and maybe to be able to actually jog a few miles without feeling like death.
    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    People reading a magazine and talking on the phone at the same time.  It isn't that crazy-but seriously? Go away!
    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?
    I have this abnormal fear, or more of a 'what's the point' with my two-piece goal.  I feel like if I'm just going to get preggers one day and it's all gone, than what's the point of busting my bum?  It's ridiculous because we're not planning on kids for a few years, but I am ridiculous like that.
    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!)

    What time of day do you work out.  Any reason why? I work from home. I prefer to get up, have coffee, then go work out, but sometimes I like to break up my day more. The gym is right across the street so when I do want to break up my day, I go around 1:30-2:00 to avoid the lunch crowd.

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)? The Move It song from Madagascar!

    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through? Pushups!

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year? Break my homeostasis and lose those last 5 lbs of fat I think I can do without.

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym? A lady at the gym wanted to use the lat pulldown machine, but somebody had taken the bar off (and left it right beside the machine). She couldn't figure out how to get the bar back on, so she tried putting her finger through the hook to pull the weight that way but that didn't work so she gave up. Also, a girl singing along (loudly) to a song in Body Flow. (Really?) Or a girl doing crackberry during Body Flow (someone's missing the point!) Or a lady doing one-arm bicep curls while reading a magazine with the other.

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal? I'm afraid of getting injured from trying to lift too much, especially on squats and deadlifts.

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!) No-frills guacamole - avocado, salt, lime juice, finely chopped onion.

    I work out after work because I do not have any other time to work out. I am not a morning person, I work till 5 and after 6ish, Fi is home. I do not see him a lot.

    I love Candy Man by Christina A and Big Star by Kenny Chesney.

    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?
    I HATE crunches because they put so much stress on my back but I do them.  

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?
    I want to by the end of the year be able to run for a few miles. I hate running now because I get out of breath soo fast but I have always wanted "go for a run" 

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    I do not use the gym... Been one time and didnt see anything

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?
    My biggest concern is that Fi is going to derail me which he did last week. Biggest fear is not hitting where I think I should be vs where is healthy and not stopping.

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!)
    I found a recipe for baked and healthy crab wontons... Nights I miss chinese food, I make them.


    Ingredients:

    24 wonton wrappers (I used Nasoya brand)
    Olive oil cooking spray
    8 oz lump crab meat
    1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    2.5 tsp curry powder
    1 tsp ground ginger
    1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
    1/2 cup reduced fat cream cheese
    1/3 cup scallions, washed and thinly sliced

    Combine all ingrediants and bake in muffin tin for 20 min at 325.
     41 cals per piece...

    What time of day do you work out.  Any reason why?
    Whenever. Truly. It's completely based on the classes I take at the gym (so morning and evening) and if I want to go for a run or practice BodyCombat... That's always at random (usually mid day). The benefits of being unemployed... :P 

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)?
    OMG all my combat music or black eyed peas. But here are a couple favorites:



    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?
    Body Pump. I do it three times a week, but I don't enjoy it. I just know I need to lift. Bleh. 

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?
    Complete a color run
    Complete a mud run
    Get my bf% down to 15% (that's only 1% less than I am now, but it'll be a challenge)
    Be pleased with my arm definition.. This is a little subjective, I realize. 

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    Nothing exciting. Boo. Some fun slips and falls in Body Step though! 

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?
    I'm majorly concerned that my genetics/body make up won't allow me to have muscular definitely in the arms the way I want them to. I know I'm a built girl, and will never EVER LOOK skinny and I'm okay with that. BUt I have a crapton of muscle. I want it to show :( 

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!)
    -Avocado mashed with lemon juice, pepper, and tobasco on toast. 
    - Chili. Everything chili. All the time chili. 
    -Pot Pie (yes.. this is crazy healthful. Yup it's vegan. mmmmmmmm )

    I don't use recipes for any of these, but since they are vegan I'm not sure anyone would want them anyway :P

    These two girls that game into the gym in BIKINIS and flip flops. 
    I kid you not. Last January. In Washington. 
    Wtf are you even doing OWNING a bikini in Washington!? lol 

    On top of it all, they went to the weight room. 

    I hope one of them dropped a weigh on their toes... I really do. That's evil and I don't care. They were idiots.

  • What time of day do you work out.  Any reason why?
    In the evenings after I get home from work. I have no desire to get up before 6 AM, and if I don't have a class, I like to time my workouts to my favorite tv shows. Each machine at my gym has a tv, so I'll go and watch the bachelor or something and stay much longer than if I was just listening to music. This way I still get to do something I normally would be sedentary for, and workout at the same time!

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)?

    I tend to like really dirty hip hop! 50 cent, lloyd banks, and old danity kane songs! Things that make me feel sexy and confident while I'm all sweaty


    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?

    OMG wall sits and planks. I HATE them. Especially the wall sits. I cant do more than a few seconds and it is so embarrassing

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?

    I'd love to be solidly within the 120s, which shouldn't be that hard since I hover in the low to mid 130s! It has been pretty hard though. I also would like to increase my ability to do those hated exercises above.

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    There is this guy that has lifted so much as to make his body absolutely enormous, but he has a tiny head, and insists on wearing tank tops so low that his nipples are legitimately hanging out all the time! Why even bother wearing a shirt? Seeing him wander around in between sets hoping people are checking him out always gives me a giggle

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?

    Just that I'll let this healthy habit fall to the wayside once my wedding comes and goes. I really want to make a permanent lifestyle change, but I can see myself living with H and not wanting to leave him in the evenings to workout. I also like to cook him impressive recipes, and the 2 are a bad combination

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!)
    - whole grain pasta with red peppers, onions, and mushrooms and turkey sausage. Just sautee all the veggies in a dash of white wine and chicken broth, and crumble the sausage in there to cook. One of my favorite things to throw together

    _ I like making an herb roasted whole chicken to serve with quinoa. Don't eat the whole chicken yourself :)

    - steak! Simply grilled, grill a ton of veggies too. Enjoy and be happy

  • My Chili recipe would be useless because it's always different. I don't go off of any recipes.. Sorry :/ 

    Here is the general pot pie recipe that I use, and I make my crust with splet/whole wheat. I will often only do the top crust, which cuts out a lot of the flour. Again, it's always different. I throw in whatever vegetables I have. I also don't keep any white potatoes in the house, so it's usually butternut squash or sweet potatoes. It's AMAZINGLY simple and sooo heart. H even said he didn't miss the meat :) 

    kwither you and I are the opposite. I like dinner for breakfast :o

    nyc LOOOOOVE the planks. LOVE them!!! Make them your new found love!! ;) hahaha.. We do so many planks in all the group x classes I take, so they don't phase me. In fact, my sister and I are doing a challenge today of seeing how long we can hold a plank. Thanks for the reminder!

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)?                                                                         I have such an embarrassing collection of stuff on my iPod right now. I don't know if it's more embarrassing to have Gangnam Style or What Makes You Beautiful ... I'm not saying they're there ... but I'm not saying they're not...
    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?                                  Burpees. (lol)
    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?                          I'd really like to learn to swim. I say it every year, and it never happens.
    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?                                                  No gym for me! But it always made me laugh to see the 'barbies' who would put on full face make up to work out. They never broke a sweat!
    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?                                                                                                                                          Not really. I know that if I can do it once, I can do it again. I'm expecting to TTC next fall anyway (since I'm older now and don't want to wait too long to have another baby), so I'd like to maintain my activity level during pregnancy and be healthy so that it'll be easier to get back at it afterwards. Ironically, I'm in better shape now than I was before either of m pregnancies, and DS will be 13 in April. DD has her 10th bday the end of this month.
    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!)                                            No real recipe. I love cottage cheese with oranges cut up in it, but I don't like the brand of cottage cheese they sell up here.

    Going to post my answers then go back and read everyone else's :)

    What time of day do you work out.  Any reason why? I work out any time after work during the work week, then I tend to work out around noon on the weekends. I am NOT a morning person, so during the week my only options are ridiculously early or in the evening. On the weekends, noon is just an easy time, it's not too early but it's early enough that I can shower and still have time to do stuff at night with friends.

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)? Any song that I'm currently really in to...at the moment Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" or Fun. "We are young", Brand New's "Seventy Times 7" has and always will gets me going (I've loved it since high school)

    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through? Stairmaster for sure. I only started doing it to mix up my workout routine a bit more, I still can't force myself to do more than 25 minutes at a time, usually only make it through 15 before I start getting too bored.

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year? I would like to complete C25K this year, I have never been able to run and I want to change that.

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym? Nothing too extraordinary. My contact at my contracting company collapsed his lung doing weightlifting though, which is pretty crazy. I always think about that when I see someone lifting weights that they obviously can't handle.

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal? I really worry about not being able to keep up this pace forever, I know I'm really motivated now but I know that will wane and wax and I don't ever want to let myself get as out of control as I was before. I feel like I've come such a long way and I worry even a small backslide will just set me all the way back to the beginning

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!) I admit that I don't actually know many healthy recipes...but I'll share this which people seemed to enjoy and is pretty low calorie:

    What time of day do you work out.  Any reason why?
    After work.  When I do get up before work to run or workout, I am so glad I did and swear I'll do it again.  That is, until the alarm goes off the next day. 

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)?
    Anything dance-y.  I'm an Italian Jersey Girl at heart.  But without the fist pumping. 

    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?
    Honestly it's lunges.  I HATE them and they are the base of every Physical Therapy program I've done.  Hate hate hate.

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?
    I'd love to run a sub-4:30 marathon in NYCM'13 which is just over a 10 minute mile.  OH and lose the newlywed 5 lbs. 

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    Oh!  There is this girl who just parades around the locker room naked.  Around and around.  Puts on her makeup, naked.  Blows her hair dry, nude.  Sometimes she puts on high heels.  I guess her feet are cold.

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?
    I am always afraid of injury and often hold back from my potential.

    What's your favorite healthy meal? (and share the recipe!) H and I grill almost anything.  Right now my current healthy breakfast is greek yogurt and strawberries, with fiber cereal sprinkled on top.

  • Time of day:  During the week I'm forced to work out after work (5:00ish), but I much prefer morning workouts if left to my own devices.  I find I'm energized for the day and more likely to "sneak" in another workout later, like a walk or a class.  During the summer I'll run before and after work, but haven't been able to motivate myself to run in the dark and the cold during the winter.

    Song: I'm on a mumford and sons kick right now (well, for a long time actually), but my ipod is all over the map.  i'll

    Least favorite exercise: Hmm, probably interval running.  I hate it but it helps so much I make myself do it, but not as much as I should.

    Fitness goal for the year: Running my first half!  Hopefully in sub 2 hours.  This is a new goal as of 2 hours ago...


    Craziest thing I've seen at the gym: Gosh I'm blanking, I know I've seen some crazy stuff.  There was an old guy in translucent shorty-shorts that always rode the recumbent bike and everyone saw way too much "stuff."  There's also a woman at my gym who openly dances on the treadmill.  But I kinda like her sense of whimsey... unless I'm at the end of my run and it isn't going well.  Then I hate everyone.

    Fears: I'm scared that I'm not doing great things for my joints with all my running.  I'm also worried that if I fall off the wagon temporarily (for a surgery I'll need in the future), that I'll get so far off the wagon I won't have the willpower to come back.  Almost like I'm afraid that by getting in really good shape, I'll be all the more crushed with setbacks.  It's sort of crazy, but I'm neurotic by nature I think.


    Favorite healthy meal: Balsamic scallops with couscous!!  Love it, but will have to find the recipe when I get home!


    and what's this soy talk?  I'm lactose intollerant and get very little calcium, so I just bought soy milk in an attempt to add that to my diet?  I like almond milk too though, is one "better" than the other??

    p.s. - breakfast for dinner is amazing. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.  Now I kind of want some breakfast food...


  • No, I never learned to swim AT ALL. My mom is terrified of - well, everything - but water was one, so we never learned. I put both my kids in as soon as I could, DS hated every minute of it and still can't swim, but DD is like a fish.

    Is it wrong that I want to learn so I can go skinny dipping sometime???

    Not my most ambitious bucket list item, but it's fun nonetheless...

    Cuba was on my list too. Since I did that, I need something to replace it, and this is of course the logical choice...

    jenny-not wrong at all! how was cuba?  
    choagie-I drink a version of lactaid made by a local dairy.  it's not as sweet as silk, so I like it.  I get the point about almond milk, but it's too sweet for me and just costs so much more than the local stuff I can get.  And I LOVE mumford!  So mad I have to go to a shower on the day they're in NJ.
    giaspo-I'll be cheering on a friend running that marathon, so now I can cheer you on, too! and I can't believe the naked chick...I guess you have to love her confidence!

  • Cuba was awesome. I got on a plane, didn't know a soul and had the best week ever! It was hot, the beach was pristine, the locals were friendly, and with the exception of the creepy French dude that followed me around for a couple of days, it was absolute heaven!

    I love Mumford and Sons too - have for quite a while. 

    I've been tempted to try almond milk, but am such a lover of the ole fashioned stuff, I feel like I'm cheating on it...

    On a slightly related (but not really) note for anyone else with gluten troubles: do you use a protein shake supplement? If so, what?

  • What time of day do you work out? Any reason why?
    I usually work out from 6:00am-7:15am. I used to work out around 5:30pm after work, but I found that it was much easier to make excuses if I waited until the end of the day. Now, I know that I need to get up every morning by 5:00am, and be out of the house by 5:30am to get to the gym and get a workout in before I am due at work by 8:00am. It does take a ton of night-before preparation, but it is worth it to me to guarantee time to get a workout in. I will still walk the dogs at night when I get home, though. Usually about once or twice during the week.

    What is (are) your favorite pump-up song(s)?
    I love working out to anything by Florence + The Machine.

    What's your least favorite exercise that you push yourself through?
    I really don't like pull-ups or push-ups. I think it's because those areas of my body are still very weak, and when I am doing the exercise I FEEL weak, but I have to remind myself that I need to push through to be able to not feel strong eventually.

    What's one fitness goal you hope to accomplish by the end of the year?
    To be able to do a pull-up hanging from a bar with no support. (or two or three)

    What is the craziest thing you've ever seen at the gym?
    There's a guy that used to come in and would be wearing jeans and a polo and work boots, and be running on the treadmill! How uncomfortable! I would NEVER be able to wear that and work out!

    Do you have any fears or major concerns with working out/hitting your ultimate goal?
    Not at the moment. I feel really motivated right now, and I hope I can keep up the self-control with making healthy eating choices.

    I seriously LIVE off my whole wheat waffles. They are a great on-the-go snack, and I have one pretty much every day. They also keep you full forever! I have already shared the recipe before, but I will post it again if anyone wants it!
