Have we started a trend??

My amazing fiance proposed to me in late September of this year. 2 weeks later, his neice was proposed to by her boyfriend .The real shocker?? This christmas eve, his sister (the mother of his now engaged neice) was proposed to by her boyfriend of 6 months. He did this in front of everyone - which was not only awkward, but very casual (he didn't even get on one knee??) . While i'm excited for them, I can't help but feel like this is going to be difficult with potential conflicting dates and plans and what not. And maybe - just maybe - am I a little wrong to be feeling like they're stealing our thunder? Because it has crossed my mind.

Reality check:
They are not stealing your thunder. They are living their lives. Other people getting married has nothing to do with you.

MilkDuds is right. People get engaged all the time. See this website you're on? It's full of brides who are engaged so you didn't start a trend, it's just a natural part of life. And no one is stealing your thunder - even if they set a date that is close to yours. Remember the big picture, it's not about your wedding day, it's about all the days that come after it.

You've hardly started a trend. Just plan your wedding and don't worry about conflicts. The only two people who have to show up are you and your FI.

Look on the bright side. With all these additional brides to be, you'll be getting a lot of reality checks and will likely not become the annoying as all hell woman who can't talk about anything except her wedding. (And before you say you would never do this, yes you would. All of us said these words and then became this woman - most of us joined TK's boards to talk with people who like talking about weddings so stick around).

You better hope they haven't started a TK account too... otherwise you're gonna look like a huge jerk to your family members. I'd get over the "it's all about me" mentality pretty quick here if you want to have a pleasant engagement.

NO trend, people were getting engaged well before you and will continue to.

I honestly understand you thought you would be the centre of everyone's attention and now there are two more bride's to be. As an adult you have to understand no one is stealing your thunder and you never know....perhaps those proposals were planned before yours and only happened later because you got engaged at the time you did.

My FI did not get down on one knee and it was very casual and it was perfect. We are still engaged.

You need to get a hold of yourself. Dates might conflict, things might be close together. It's ok. I have two relatives who got engaged at the same time as me and ended up getting married two weeks apart. IT was a lot of fun. There was no thunder stolen from anyone.

Are you an only child? Is it difficult for you to share? My FI didn't get on one knee. I knew he wouldn't and I didn't expect it. Does that mean we aren't engaged?

I've had 10 friends get engaged in 11 months I've been engaged. It happens, and I'm excited to go to all these weddings. Plus, I just get to talk to all of them about wedding stuff and they don't get super annoyed because it gives them an excuse to talk about it too. Win win.

I wouldn't worry too much about your FI's sister. Everybody knows if a guy doesn't pop the question while down on one knee the Wedding Police will storm the reception and light the marriage certificate on fire. That copycatting, thunder-stealing biotch will get hers, mark my words.

Starting a trend by you getting engaged? Please, get over yourself. Holy Narcissism! I have a cousin getting married a week before me, one getting married 3 months before me and one getting married a week after me. I got engaged 4 months before any of these people, do I think I started a trend - yeah right! My fiance didn't get down on one knee- personally I think that is ridiculous, why would he need to kneel down below me, we are equals! You should not judge anyone's relationship, you don't really know how much they love each other. What you may consider awkward may be what another person feels as endearing. Just pick your date and let everyone know when it is. People will make time for your wedding if they think it is important. If anything you should feel excited that you can have other brides near to you that are also planning because I am sorry to break it to you but usually the bride is the only one VERY interested in their own wedding/thinks everything they are doing is better than everyone else.

All the other PP's are spot on. Plus, the fall/winter holiday seasons are statistically the most popular time for couples to get engaged, because they are surrounded by (well they hope) friends and family who are excited for them! I was engaged in the summer, so of course many people were after me. But many were before me as well. NBD, I was happy for them all!

And I love talking to them all about being engaged and planning weddings!

This is hilarious! My fiance and I got engaged in August and since then all but 1 of his(in a relationship) co-worker's have gotten engaged and we certainly didnt start a trend. It happens. I'm freakin pumped for all these weddings this year! No one is stealing anyones thunder.

Be happy that they are happy and everything will work out. If there are conflicting dates and plans, work around it. You'll get over it, they will get over it.

Maybe OP meant started a trend in the family? IDK. I'm sure that those people would have gotten engaged anyway, but yeah...moving on now.

Wow- these responses are a little harsh. I think you "ladies" are the Bridzilla's.

I kind of feel you may have sparked something within your family.. it does seem a little odd that 2 more members have proposed so shortly after your announcement.
Yes, ppl get married all the time but think about it ladies, how many couple within your family are getting married in the same time frame?
The one knee thing is old fashioned- and I still like to see it.. I get where you're coming from with it though.. seems he may have been proposing to perhaps only to jump on the band wagon.. or maybe not??
Only you know the personalities of your family dynamics so I try to go by the saying- don't judge a book by it's cover. As many of these women have done to you.

I totally agree with this. im sorry these ladies ganged up on you like this. yu are probably just trying to get this off your chest in a way that wont hurt the loved ones you mentioned. i have seen a lot of people react harshly to posts on this site. its too bad.
