Did time stop?

I swear, this last hour has gone on and on forever.  It needs to be 6 pm pronto.

While you're in here, do you think it's tacky to give your 7 year old niece cash for her birthday?

Yes, time stopped.  It certainly did.

I always got the $1/year birthday gifts growing up.  So $7 for being 7.

no, I don't think it's tacky to give money at any age!  Kids love money.  Heck adults love money...money for everyone.

    MONEY MONEY MONEY. . . . MONNNNNIEEEEE

No, I dont think it's tacky. Plus some kids are learning how to save their money, so I think that's a pro for that kind of gift at a young age.

Thank you for the validation.  She loves having her own money and ironically, loves saving it.  Her parents are big Dave Ramsey people, so they've been teaching her some really important lessons about money.  Plus, she's having her birthday party at Build-A-Bear tomorrow, so I thought she would probably be thrilled to use that toward some accessories.

I rarely had my own money when I was little, but when I had some, I remember it was the best thing ever to get to go to Target with my parents and pick something out all by myself!  I think it helped to learn numbers too since I had to know that whatever I wanted cost less than I had.  Of course, I always came home with tacky stuff :)

Aww thats cute! My parents did the Dave thing with my siblings (they're also homeschooled) and have tried to teach the saving factor and what not, but that they can still spend it as long as its not a rash and crazy thing (like 4lbs of candy or something)

Anyways, my little sister is also an awesome little artist and has a unique style so people have actually paid her to do portraits and greeting cards. Thus far at age 12, since she opened her savings account she's got over 1k. Its crazzyyy.

Lil bro at age 10 sells chicken eggs and has saved 800.

I'm soo proud of them :o)

that was random sorry, anyways yeah I think money is a good gift, plus they can pick out what they'd really like, or save to get it :o)

I think cash is fine.  Me and my brother used to get cash for all holidays from our grandparents.

Beka, that is insane!  Can your parents teach my 19 yr old brother about money?  He always spends whatever money our mom gives him for food up at college, on random stuff.  I told my mom to let him starve but she won't listen ;)

My two younger sisters need this advice also!  One of them finally has a steady job but took out a ton of stupid payday loans and is struggling to climb out of debt, and the other is 20 and has never held a steady job....not sure what happened between me and them!  Still love them though.

WOW! That is crazy--saving is hard...i'm def not the saver more the spender..FI is saver!  We make quite a pair!

I think its fine to give kids money..although I know when I was young I really really liked opening gifts compared to checks/money (weird i know I have changed my mind!) So with my neices/nephews I always try to have a little something for them to open like a game or something. But plain money is fine!!!

My granddaddy also gave me $5-$10 for every report or progress report card if I had good grades and I loved showing off my grades to him!

lol its a fluke. I'm decent at saving, but my older brother and 21 yr old sister are in a decent amount of debt.

My youngest sister, the one rolling in the dough is saving for a pony :o)

Yeah. . those payday things are never a good idea. You end up paying back like 3times the amount you borrowed.
