Military Brides

Introduction

Hi, I've been lurking for a while and wanted to start getting involved, so here I am. I'm normally pretty good at the people thing, but I apparently really screwed up introducing myself on another board (Snarky Brides- they seem like great girls, I think everything just came out wrong), so I want to be better here. My FI is in the Air Force, and I'm moving most of the way across the country to live with him at the end of this month. I'm so excited I can barely stand it. We've been together 3 years, I'm 27 and he's 24 which gives us an interesting dynamic as far as most military couples we know, speaking of which: I was raised with absolutely zero knowledge of anything military, so if I screw something up, please tell me, I'm still learning. So, Hi, hope to be around here and meet some people.

Thanks. I'm moving to Florida, I live in Utah right now, but am from Mississippi. I haven't planned a lot, I'll probably start the heavy lifting once I get back South.

o0o0 Florida. :) We may end up in JAX next (although I don't know if I can handle that heat!)

Welcome to the military brides board! You came to the right place for military knowledge. We have women IN the military, women working on getting in, spouses of, military brats, you name it.  SOMEONE will help answer any question you have. :)
If your date is accurate, you still LOTS of time for planning. Do you haveanything that you've taken care of yet, or looking at starting on first? So you're having the wedding in FL then?

Right now he's at Pensacola (am I allowed to say that? After lurking on here, I really want to make sure I don't screw up the OPSEC/PERSEC thing). Yeah, it's the early days, I'm having my 9th grade homecoming date officiate the wedding (we went to a small Catholic school, so I've known him since we were 5, and he became a priest). So that's really cool. I'm having the wedding in Mississippi, in my hometown, he's from a smaller, university town in MS, and his family is really small, and a lot of them have done military service or are career military (oooh, his family, but that's another post :) ) so they're pretty scattered. Right now I'm looking at venues online, trying to keep it close to the church (it's downtown, so there's a good bit there). The date isn't set in stone, but it's probably going to be within a month either way of that, it's just too darn hot in the summer.
The heat, the heat! I've been living in UT, where we don't need A/C at all, and moving back to the Southeast in August may have been the worst idea ever. Especially as most of it will be spent moving boxes outdoors.

</div><div>OPSEC/PERSEC really comes into play on deployments and all that fun stuff. Just be careful of super specific stuff for now and you're in the clear...the fact that you are familiar with OPSEC makes life easier, really. </div><div>
</div><div>Anyways, WELCOME to the board! Happy planning : ) Good luck with that heat, I'm in CT, we've been under heat advisory for 2 days but down south has been triple digits for almost 2 weeks I hear so I can't say I'm jealous of FL. Good Luck with planning and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have...military related or otherwise.

    Welcome to the Boards!!!!

Hubs and I LOOVVEE Mississippi!! We met in Meridian, MS actually.Laughing You'll readjust to the heat and humidity quickly... or at least I did. I just moved from WA, back home to NC to live with my parents instead of staying in WA with my IL's, while H is overseas.  Luckily we just got orders to MCAS New River, so it'll only be a short drive for me to move again.. and I'll be moving the first of the year so not too much heat!! Stay Hydrated!!(that's such a military thing to say..) We hit 101 today and I spent most of the day at the mall, in the car, or in the AC haha.

Anyway.. If you have any questions feel free to ask!!

Hi and welcome! Congrats on your engagement, and yay Mississippi! I've lived there all my life, and the heat is killer. I know the moving will suck but at least you'll be with your FI!

Thanks everyone, I promise to try to keep my lurking lessons in mind and not be too annoying!
Shan, he commissioned a year ago out of ROTC and right now is waiting on his last training date before he classes up. (He had a pretty bad shoulder injury right after he got to P-cola,fortunately all in much better now, but he got put out of the rotation for a while). He'll be studying to be a Navigator (and he's the man who uses a GPS for everything in the car, lol), but he'd really like to fly drones eventually, so we'll see. We've been LD since last October and I last saw him right after Easter, which I realize is total small potatoes compared to many, but I'm super pumped, even if I feel like I'll never get packed.

Wait is he's commissioned and at P-cola? Is he going pilot/nav as well? :) If FI gets an instructor spot for next station we'll be in p-cola or JAX. Fi really wants to teach the t-34's?
Have you ever been to Meridian? Fi may want to transition to jets, but Mississippi scares me O.o I don't do heat, humidity, and hurricanes well />_<

Edit: I just realized you said he's a nav. hahaha reading fail.

If you don't mind me asking, why does Mississippi scare you, but Florida doesn't? I guarantee that it's just as hot in FL as it is here (although the scenery is a whole lot prettier), and they get hit by WAY more hurricanes than Meridan does. Just my two cents though, take it for what it's worth.

Oh no, I don't like the sound of florida at all either!! The only reason JAX would be better is because we would know people there, and better options for me grad school wise.
I'm not a southeast girl... I'm a west coast girl... I'm hoping we end up at pax. haha...

FTL-The humidity's worse in MS to me just because P-cola has the ocean, and yes, I have been to/through Meridian many times, my Mom's family lives in a small town just outside of there. I actually have a friend whose husband is stationed there right now, after almost 6 years in England, so that was a huge change for them. Personal preference, I would rather be in P-cola than Meridian, Meridian is teensy tiny and a little bit po-dunk, and someone coming completely outside the South it would be quite an adjustment. Plus, as you want to go to grad school, there would be no options closer than a couple to three hours away.
On the plus side, you're unlikely to get hurricane cast off in Meridian, and P-cola will definitely evac at some point if it's bad enough. You will, however, get lots of thunderstorms and tornados, which you get a bit less warning for. I'm just so upbeat. :)

hahah yeah.. the south scares the buh-jeezes out of me. I LOVE visiting Chattanooga, though (that's where FI's family is so we spend holidays there). They don't get hit with much in the way of weather :) I wish there was a base there haha!
Yeah I have heard meridian is po-dunky... P-cola my fi loved, so I would be at least going in there with a positive attitude... kinda />_<
Whatever Fi wants, though. I'll go anywhere if it's what he wants career wise, and will just have to work around it. Part of the military package I suppose.:)

The Bricks at Meridain were HORRIBLY damaged in Hurricane Katrina. When I was there 3 or more years ago they were still re-building.. And we got restriced to the bricks like a million times for tornados. I would pick MS or FL any day.. Except Disney. I wanna go to Disney real bad.

There was a Nav guy in H's squardon at Flight School. He was Air National Guard and wanted to switch to Pilot. He was the guy's best friend while mission planning lol. :) GL to your FI. :)

Yeah... I told you when you can go to Disney, brat... either the October "Wine & Dine" Half Marathon or the February "Disney Princess" Half Marathon!  Take your pick!  That's not a suggestion, it's a demand.  Pick one!
