Engagement party invitations

My fiance and I are throwing a crawfish boil at our home as a small celebration of our engagement.  Should the invitation include our names i.e. "Please join us for a crawfish boil celebrating the engagement of Maggie and Bryan..." or should it say "celebrating OUR engagement..." since we are hosting it ourselves?????

Help please!

    You shouldn't be throwing your own engagement party.  A family member should.

    I think today's times have changed and people want to do things themselves sometimes so people the people saying faux pas this and that and all that haughty taughty talk...get a life. Not everyone even have people to throw them party's and still have the right to celebrate...and she wasn't asking anyone's approval. She was asking about wording. I think it's fine if you say "our" engagement.

    Times may have changed but it's just as selfish to throw a party in honor of yourself now as it always has been. You'd be wise to read up on proper etiquette unless you think you're too busy to since you "have a life".

    The OP can still throw a party. It just can't be an engagement party.

    It's not that serious...if I choose to throw myself a party of any kind..that's my business and enyone who thinks its a faux paz can definitely offer their services and income to thow it for me...lol. Its a time for celebration and if anyone wants to throw it themselves for their selected few or in conjunction with their family its fine...not gaudy or tacky...

    Of course you can *choose* to do anything you want.  You're presumably a grown adult capable of doing what you want to do.

    However once you involve others, it stops being just "your business".  Isn't that the point?  Don't you care what others think if you want them there with you??

    This isn't a matter of debate or opinion.  It's incorrect etiquette to throw a party in honor of yourself.  Period.

    You can certainly throw a party for the sake of throwing one, but it never has nor is it now acceptable to throw a party in honor of yourself.

    The OP and her FI can have a great crawfish boil.  They just can't call it an engagement party if they're hosting it.

    Well my fiance and I are throwing an engagement party that my maid of honor and our moms are helping a lot with. I don't think that it is out of line at all because its not just about us, we are going at it in a way that is in celebration of the joining of two great families.

    So, I think that it is perfectly acceptable to say OUR engagement.
