1940's style

Hello everyone....I am looking for ideas for my table centerpcs....

Re: 1940's style

  • Milk glass and traditional floral arrangements come to mind unless you have a more specific theme?
  • I've also seen people use old books, records, typewriters, etc. It depends on the level of formality and your specific theme. Can you give us any more detail about your vision?

  • I was thinking about large martini glasses with floating candles - strands of pearls...I want classy and elegant yet unique....and something that really reflects that time period.  I want to do alot of this stuff myself since floral arrangements on every table will get quite costly...  Thanks for any and all help ladies!!

  • I think that I would scour antique stores for vases that would give you something similar. Martini glasses would look nice and I like the pearl idea a lot. Just be careful not to evoke more of a 20s feel with it. Looking up 1940s kitchens, dining rooms, and decor might help. Vases like the ones in these pics were popular. Many had fan shapes in that decade.

  • Martini glasses and pearls? The first half of the 1940's was entirely centered around sacrificing for the troops! Women didn't even wear pantyhose!!

For real 1940s, I would go with something like this

Except set them on the tables rather than hanging them.

Depending on the number of tables/bridesmaids, you could just have your BMs throw their bouquets in there. You could also have silk flowers in the centerpieces, or really cheap arrangements, even from the supermarket!
