September 2012 Weddings

Morning wedding, afternoon reception and late night party?

Okay, so my wedding is at 10:30 AM, with the reception starting around 11:30-12:00- ending at 3:30. After stuff is cleaned up and hauled out, we are going to our hotel room and relaxing together until about 7 or 8 until we get picked up by the wedding party and other various friends from the wedding and head downtown to a reserved VIP area at a bar/bowling venue.

My question is- what do I wear out for this? Should I buy a little white dress, something flashy- put the wedding dress back on?

Also, is anyone else doing something similar?

  • I guess it would depend on what the rest of the bridal party is planning on doing. Are the groomsmen staying in their suits and are the ladies wearing their bridesmaid dresses? If yes, then put your wedding dress back on. However I have a feeling that with such a large gap that everyone will change into more casual clothes. In that case, I would wear a kinda fancy short white dress.

  • I would probably not wear the wedding dress to a bar/bowling alley, particularly when there is such a big gap between each event.  However, as previous poster mentioned... if everyone else is still wearing their formal wear, and you want to be the center of attention, feel free to throw your wedding gown back on.  Just expect people to look at you a little crazy when you walk into a bowling alley with a wedding gown on.

With that said, our reception is scheduled to end at 9, and a few friends and our bridal party are all going straight to a local pub.  And I will be in my gown at a dive bar... so, its really whatever you want!

  • We're doing something similar. The wedding ends at 4pm and we're going to have an unofficial after party/bar hop around 8.

There is no way I'd wear my wedding dress for what we have planned, it would get in the way and be too easy to mess up. I'm planning on buying another cute dress for this that will probably not even be white. I'm way too accident prone and likely to spill stuff on myself!

  • I'm getting a short white dress for our after party at the casino :)

  • Personally, I'm all for wearing the dress there, but I guess it could depend on the type of dress. I don't see a big ballgown working too well. We went bowling after my high school prom in all our attire, and it was really fun.

Oh please don't wear your beautiful wedding gown out to a club or a bar!  I saw a bride do this once and some stranger acidentally ashed their cigarette on her dress!

I would get a super cute/sparkly short dress in silver or white to wear out.  If you want people to be aware that it is your wedding day, you could wear a "Bride" sash or a mini veil.

  • If it were me I'd get a cute white dress to wear out. I would hate to think of what could happen to your dress going there, and also there is the time gap. In that gap of time I would DEFINITELY be planning on changing anyway.
  • I love the idea of wearing a birdcage veil out to the bar with a more informal white dress for the afterparty! It makes it just a little bit more special without being too over the top.
