diy hangers???

I know a lot of you ladies made your own wire hangers.  I have been putting that project off, and might be able to tackle it this weekend, but I wanted to know how long it took you girls to do them.  Am I going to spend the whole weekend doing it?!  I have only 3 to make plus mine.

Re: diy hangers???

  • I made 3 in less than an hour. It was way easier than it looks, actually.

It's easiest if you write the names as you want them on paper first, then "trace" them with the wire, that way you knonw they will fit and look good when you attach the wire to the hanger.

Awesome!  I know I'm going to get grief from FI if I start yet another project this late in the game, so I'm hoping it won't take long at all.  I like the tracing idea!  Thanks!

  • I agree with PP. It's easier than it looks. I tackled mine (I made 8), with breaks in less than 3 hours. Totally do able.

  • I'm jealous of your ladies' creativity and DIY abilities. :)

  • wow I thought it was harder than it looks! I tried the 12 gauge wire and made a mess of every name except the really easy one.  Then switched to 18 gauge and they came out Ok but still not fabulous.  Definitely helps to write out the name but I still wish they looked a bit more professional.

Good point, what did you other girls use?  18 gauge also??  Did you anticipate like 18" per hanger when buying the wire??

  • I bought a pretty decent size coil of wire from Home Depot and I have tons and tons left over. I ended up getting thicker wire than I should have (I believe it's either 14 or 12) which made it a lot harder to bend smoothly. I think it took me about 2 hours to do all 6.
