dress problem

okay so a month ago i tried on my dress for my sister, it didn fit! Wouldn't zip! So, I started a diet lost 9 pounds, now.....my dress is to big! WTF Should I go for my fitting now or wait a little i think im pretty close to the 8 week mark.

Re: dress problem

  • How big is it? Would a fluctuation of 5 lbs make a difference? If so, I'd wait until the last minute to make sure. I know that even 5 lbs on me makes a difference but luckily my weight doesn't really fluctuate very much, especially when I eat clean. I'm having a fitting early August and then again in September (so like 1-2 before the wedding). I'd say the 8 week mark might be too soon for you, especially if you are still dieting and plan to lose more.

  • I would call your bridal salon and ask what the latest date is that you can have it altered. Explain that you lost those 9 pounds and it is too big, but you may lose more before the wedding. I'm sure it happens a lot, and they will know best what their seamstress can do.

    Congrats on the weight loss!

I would advise you to wait IF this hadn't happened to me...

I went for my first dress fitting at the end of June which is super early but I am SO happy I did.  I lost considerably more than 9 pounds (I lost about 30) and my seamstress was beyond relieved that I didn't wait 2+ more weeks to get started because my dress would have been un-save-able if I'd lost anymore weight.  She gave me strict instructions to maintain (even though I really really want to keep losing/toning)- if I lose anymore, I'll need to buy a new dress!

Just something to keep in mind.  I know 9 pounds isn't a crazy amount of weight and shouldn't equate to losing more than 2 dress sizes like I did, but don't go too crazy with trying to lose all your weight at the last minute and hoping the dress can be taken in. GL!!
  • If just a few pounds either way make your dress that difficult to fit, maybe look into making it a laceup??
