target & neiman marcus

to the surprise of no one, this is not selling well.

i went to my local target and then had everything, in almost every size.  i tried on the one thing i really wanted (the navy tipped in white blazer by thom browne) and it was ... fine.  but then i thought, if i am going to pay $150 for a blazer, i would rather pay for it at nordstrom than target, where the sweatshop labor is going to actual put their back into it.

i looked at the tracy reese dress, and again -- where am i going to wear a fancy dress in cotton?  i can pay less for actual silk and have money left over to give to a seamstress.

Re: target & neiman marcus

  • the archer farms caramel popcorn is really very good. otherwise, Target is getting a little big for its britches with the new clothing lines. i mean, really. it's still target. a definite step above Kmart, but i still want to get my discount tampons there.
  • I really loved the Robert Rodriguez black lace dress online, but it looked sad and cheap in person.

I wanted to look through the stuff, but I was on a mission the last time I was there and I haven't had time to go back since.  But there was certainly a lot of it left in the store.
  • hmo, that was the only thing I liked as well.  I thought it would look fantastic with boyfriend cropped jeans...but for $150, I'd rather buy something NOT from Target or proudly proclaimed, "Made in Vietnam (or whatever 3rd world country)".

Also, my good friend who works at Target is delusional and keeps telling me the "consumer is just confused".  Um, no.

Target missed the mark...I don't care if it says Marc Jacobs, I will not spend $70 on a scarf or $60 on gloves.  Nope.

  • MIL got me one of the Judith Leiber compact mirrors. A lovely gesture, but holy pricetag!
  • The consumer is not confused.  Target is confused about it's consumer.

I looked, but didn't buy for all the same reasons.

    preach on.

my other issue with the collection is that it is poorly focused.  the thing with the other collections is that they did their thing within a target price range.  my beloved orla kiely collection -- she does homegoods in her regular line; the target line is simply less polished and uses less expensive manufacturing.

if i am buying tory burch, i don't want a lunchbag -- i want successories or shoes.  for dvf, i don't want home accessories -- i want a dress.

Exactly.  I looked at the collection and thought, "What the what?!"  The collection did not play to a lot of the designers strengths or 'signature' that they bring to the industry.
  • BUT DO THEY HAVE THE NEIMAN MARCUS COOKIE RECIPE????
  • I agree. Target knows that their target customer will look but not spend that amount on a lace dress.

  • I loved the lace dress online, but in person, it was just meh. I'm not dropping that amount of money on a Target dress that I will likely not fit into on NYE.

I was really disappointed overall. I liked a couple of the dresses for little girls, but I do not have a little girl. And if I was spending that much on a little girl's dress, I'd go to Nordstom/Bloomingdales/Saks/etc.for a special dress.
