Vendor Reviews - 6/4/11

I had the most amazing wedding day thanks to most of my vendors!  I was an out of town bride and they made the planning process as easy as could be expected.

Reception: The Foundry – A+

Having our reception here was one of the best decisions we made.  The space is great and barely needs any additional decoration.  The food is incredible, we even did our cake here, and everyone approached us to tell us how much they loved the food!  The owner is really responsive and great to deal with.  Highly recommended!

Ceremony/Room Blocks: The Westin Canal Place – A

We had our ceremony and room blocks at The Westin.  They are absolutely wonderful to work with…so accommodating and helpful.  The rooms were nice, they upgraded us to a huge suite, gave us champagne & chocolate covered strawberries the night of our wedding, and could not have been nicer to our guests.  I also heard good things about the food in the hotel from the people who ate there.

Week of Planner: Belle Soiree – A

I was having some issues with the week-of planner I hired when I first got engaged.  So, the week before my wedding I switched to Merideth Reed.  She was organized, responsive, and so enthusiastic about my wedding.  She did an amazing job making sure that I got to relax and enjoy my day!

Room Blocks: The Doubletree – B

We booked a second set of room blocks with the Doubletree.  Up until a few weeks before my wedding, I could not get anyone to answer my calls or e-mails.  I also couldn’t find out how many rooms we had left, and the guests that booked at this hotel actually paid more than if you booked online.  I had a number of guests try to go through our block and didn’t end up getting included.  I also don’t think our guests there were happy with the rooms.

 Photographer: Matthew Foster – A

Matt was great.  So helpful and responsiveness, passionate and had great instincts.  Loved him!  We haven’t gotten our photos yet, but I’ll re-post when we do.

 Florist: Christina O’Malley – A

Christina is really sweet.  She’s really on top of everything and our flowers were beautiful (and budget friendly).

Second Line Band: Storyville Stompers – A

They were great…responsive leading up to the wedding, showed up on time, and lead a great second line!

Performers: 610 Stompers – A+

My husband’s groomsmen surprised us at The Foundry with the 610 Stompers.  They put on quite a show and got our guests ready to party!

Ceremony Musicians: Pan String – A

They were responsive, nice to work with, on-time at the wedding, and the music was beautiful.

 DJ: Quinn Landry/Impulse Entertainment – A-

Quinn was a really nice guy, avoided all of our “do not plays”, and played every song we requested.

Officiant: Reverend John Zimmer – A

Sweet, funny and thoughtful.  Our guests loved him!

Rehearsal Dinner: Acme Oyster House – A

Amazing food and location.  The private space also has a private balcony, which was fun for our out of town guests!

Welcome Party: Maison Bourbon – A-

We did an open bar from 8-11pm on Friday night of our weekend, and our guests LOVED it.  The space was huge and it also had a private balcony right on Bourbon Street.  The people who own the space are kind of slow on e-mail, and the contact’s mailbox was full the night of the event, but once we got there everything went well.  It was a great way to kick-off the weekend!

 Transportation: American Luxury – A

Nice, responsive, and made sure everyone had fun to/from the hotel.

 Hair & Make-up: Flawless Bride – A+

I loved working with Flawless Bride.  I read mixed reviews so I was nervous, but Heather and her team are amazing.  She did my trial at a less than desirable hotel I booked on one of my visits to save some money and she never complained.  Then, her team offered to help me find an upgraded hotel for my wedding weekend at a discounted rate (thinking I was staying at the cheaper one and not at The Westin).  They showed up on time, did an amazing job with my bridesmaids, and I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED my hair & make-up for the wedding.

Second Line Hankies: Gem Printing – A

It took them only one day to print the personalized hankies.  They answered all of my questions via e-mail prior to my order, and they turned out great.

Flip Flops: DollarDays.com – A

I gave our guests flip flops before our second line parade and everyone loved them.  They were SO cheap but didn’t look very cheap and they all lasted the walk!

Photo Booth: Red Eye Photo Booths – A

Easy to work with, responsive, and the pictures/album were really cute!

Don't even bother with The Doubletree, there are so many other options in the area!

Thanks for posting. I'm usings some of your same vendors - Foundry for reception and Matt Foster for photography. So happy to hear about your great experiences. We are still searching for a ceremony site and were considering the Plimsoll in the Westin. What part of the Westin did you have your ceremony? Would you be willing to share any pics? Thanks!!

My husband's groomsmen actually surprised us with the 610 Stompers, which was amazing!  I am not sure how much they charge, but I think they're expensive.  I know you can go on their website to e-mail them for booking information.

We had our ceremony in the Crescent Room (the Plimsoll Club was either already booked or too small), but we took pictures on the terrace right outside the Plimsoll Club.  I don't have my pictures back yet, but I can send you the ones our friends/family took!  It was a really nice space, especially with the terrace just outside and the view of the river.  Just let me know your e-mail address and I'll send along.

It's actually so hard to see anything in the pictures I have, and I want you to have an accurate vision of it.  So I'll e-mail you as soon as I have my photographer pictures in two weeks!
