Uniforms?

So FI has decided to go officer. Which means he will have to buy the ASU at some point.

If FI bought it before the wedding could he still wear his class As?

If he chose to wear the ASU, Could the guys wear their class As or would that look funky?

How about you wait to see if he gets accepted to worry about or even ask this question.  Just because someone decides to do something, doesn't mean it will always pan out.  Look at you, you had 100% decided to enlist, and now you're all caught up in this ponzi scheme that you work for and you haven't mentioned it in months.  Clearly, things change...

YOU HAVE TWO YEARSSSSSSS!!!!  Calm the heck down already.  Uniforms may change, he might not even be in the military anymore, he might or might not make officer, his buddies might not even be the same people.

If the ASUs stay the same he will have to buy them whether he is E or O at some point.

Kendall, you need to chill out seriously. You're wedding is in 2 years. You know when we decided what my H was going to wear? A week before the wedding. He wanted to not wear his dress blues so we went to Men's Wearhouse and a bought a suit the week before. You do not need to be worrying about his attire at this point.

When did we pick out what the guys were wearing? (he only had his 2 brothers), um probably about 3 weeks before the wedding.

In other words, this is a silly question. I understand that you want to plan, but you are planning wayyyyyy too far in advance.

ditto the others - I'm a ways out too and it isn't worth this stress. We talked about it, but nothing is set in stone. And I only asked Fi to think about it because i knew he would be indecisive about it. He has changed his mind about 4 times - I'm sure he will change it a few more times. It is nice and comforting to have a general idea - like a color so I do understand and sympathize with wanting to know. But you can't set up a uniform until you have a rank and unit etc and in two years a lot can chance along with your personal tastes. The uniforms themselves may or may not change as well. Fi originally wanted to wear his greens - we nixed it because he needed to get the new blues for his transfer/promotion. It nixed us really having a choice. Army is slated for their swap to be full by 14? maybe sooner which means you might not even have a choice being far off. So if your NG I'd assume that you guys are swapping it all over as well. There are also different options. Fi originally was no uniform anywhere within a 5 mile radius of our wedding. Only two weeks ago he asked if I'd be ok with mess dress. I decided not worth it - no mater if its civilian or military they are wearing navy blue - my job is done.

Moral of this your going to stress yourself out way more then it is worth.

To answer your question About wearing them together I think they are phasing out different options in the Army and the new blue ASUs also are worn differently regarding which unit you are in. I was kind of not paying attention when it was being explained to me (oops). It is my understanding that you can wear different uniforms if they are of the same formality  level and it is season appropriate, so as long as your desired uniforms fall into that then that makes it a personal choice of preference. Besides like others said friends  or retire themselves and dont want to wear a uniform because they arent active (we have this challenge with the change in uniforms - he has greens and isnt active, no point in getting new blues) change and the guys could easily decide they all want to wear the same uniform or no uniform - cross that bridge when you get to it, not when you look at it on the map.

Class A's are authorized for wear though 2014.  If your FI stays in a traditional (once a month drill) status the NG will eventually have to buy the ASU's for him but there is no funding for that at this time.  The chances of him seeing ASU's issued to him in the next couple of years are pretty slim.

As far as your original question, yes, ASU's and Class A's can be worn at the same event as they are both authorized at this time.  Being two years out you seriously don't have to worry about this at all right now.

Ugh, hell. I became nicer in my old hag-dom. This is draft 16....

Kendall, I suggest delegating some of these questions/tasks to your FI, for real. He can handle his own attire/leave schedule/buttondown color.
