Do you plan on having a family union ceremony during the ceremony?

I recently went to a wedding where the family did a sand ceremony and each child poured sand into the vase.

My FI and I have two children each ranging from ages 4-18 (big gaps I know lol) and I am trying to figure out a way to have a family union ceremony. I thought about necklaces but I am not sure his 18 year old son would be interested in a necklace..

Thoughts, ideas, anything!

    I love the family union ceremony's. Its a great way to incorporate the children on both sides, while showing unity to all the guests!

    Why don't you do necklaces for the girls (if any), and something like a name bracelet or a tag on a necklace for the boys (the same as the army tags)? The tags I really like because it's still masculine, and can be personalized for the occasion.

    THIS is exactly what I am doing. I have a child from a previously relationship, he is 9. FI has no kids, but I want to incorporate my son into our ceremony as much as possible. We decided to have him pour sand in the vase with us. I have been looking for my ideas, and havent come up with much. So I will be watching this thread for ideas.

    We will be doing the blend family ceremony and givnig her a necklace.  There will only be using vows from this site.

    I have an 11 year old from previous relationship, FI has no kids. We were going to get him a ring with engraving (that he can wear as right hand ring when he gets older).

    Our invites have his name on there also. So far, they say the following but I may change it up a little bit:

    This is just something from reading different sites that I compiled together and made..


    We are all members of one family, Gods family. Today as Casey and Michael have sealed their commitment to each other with the exchange of rings they to make a commitment to their children. We recognize the significant role that Mikell, Semaya, Kennedi and Parker play in this marriage celebrated today. They will now join Casey and Michael  in this commitment to each other by contribution a part of each individual person into one blended family. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of this sand, each representing a member. As each individuals sand is poured into the family's one united container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will become the bond with your family


    The White sand represents God-The foundation that Casey and Michael have built their relationship on. They will pour this sand in simultaneously representing two hearts becoming one.

    The Purple sand represents the unity that Casey and Michael     have begun today
    The Green sand represents Mikell, the Teal sand represents Semaya, the yellow sand represents Kennedi and the pink sand represents Parker.

    Each Family member will pour a small amount of White sand in the vase. This will remind this family that God is the Beginning and the End to all things in our lives.

    We are a blended family  I have 3 and he has 1 and no I am not doing a family ceremony. I think my vows are to my FH and really shouldn't involve the kids. The kids will be there standing with us, but the will not be included in the vows. Casey you should also check under the second weddings board. They have a whole section on how to include the children in the ceremony.

    This sounds really nice...Im not sure if I will incorporate my daughter in a special part on the ceremony vows, though. I may let her walk down the isle though.

    All of this is so nice!! We were planning on a sand ceremony, but just FI and me... now I'm kinda rethinking this. It really could be a nice way to incorporate them in.

    We are doing a family dinner after our wedding and honeymoon where we will do something with all of the kids; probably the blended family ceremony.

    I have a 10 yr old daughter and my FI doesn't have any kids. She is already apart of the wedding as a junior bridesmaid. We also wanted to include her in the ceremony too so I decided to change the jumping the broom ceremony wording to include the three of us blending as a new family unit. We will hold hands and jump the broom together with my daughter in the middle of course:
