Flowers

I was wondering what kind of flowers everyone was using. I love peonies but you can't get them in July... I saw that some of you have peonies in your inspiration bouquet, are you able to get them? We are going to use dahlia's and orchids.....

Re: Flowers

  • We are using lisianthis, ranunculus, english garden roses, fiddlehead ferns, hipericum berries, hydrangeas, queen anne's lace, and blue delphiniums. A lot of those have a similar soft texture of peonies!
  • we're using: calla lilies, freesia & roses
  • I am using orchids.  I am also using silk flowers.

  • I'm mostly using Gerber daisies, but some others for fillers-button mums, regular small daisies, hydrangias, etc.

Can I add that flowers are my biggest nightmare?!?! I am having the hardest time getting myself to pay that much for something that won't last very long! So, I'm using a few silks, since I need to be able to bring centerpieces back for our second reception here, a month later (centerpieces are going to have minimal flowers anyway). Also, after getting 3 VERY different quotes from florists, I think we're going to use my cousin's aunt. She used to work in a flower shop, so if I buy them in bulk, she will put them together for a minimal charge.

I LOVE ranunculus but he charged so much for them it was rediculous. I think he said like $30 for one stem. We are doing the English garden roses as well. I was pretty shocked at the pricey self, close to
    $2000!!!
  • The only flowers we are doing are for my bouquet and I am having only Pink Calla Lillies.  A "friend" of mine who attends the New Mom Support Group I run, offered to do my bouquet but I declined after she quoted me $400 + more for arranging!  Thats more than the florists I checked into!

  • Our florist said peonies are unlikely but she'll use them if she can find them and if not she'll use garden roses. So peonies/garden roses, hydrangeas, baby's breath, and stock.

  • Well for my bouquet we're using Blue Hydrangea, white mini calla orchids, green roses, and green hypericum berries.
For the rest of the decor we're using blue and green hydrangeas in mason jars.  We also have to meet with our florist again just to do some final decisions but I'm thinking of adding potted Gerber daisies for along the aisle.

  • I'm doing all silk because I'm doing everything myself as far as decor goes and I wanted a certain look, but wasn't prepared to pay the price for real flowers.  I'm doing velvet ivory roses, organza ivory roses and miniature velvet turquoise rosebuds.  I have a picture of my flower girl pomander on my Pinterest board.  I'm almost done with my bouquet, but waiting on a few more things from etsy and ebay sellers and have done one centerpiece and one aisle pomander, but need to add a few more things to them, too before I take pics.

  • I am using hydragenas and regular roses.  I really liked the look of peonies/garden roses but peonies are not easily found in my area and I have pretty bad allergies to flowers and garden roses are extremely fragrant and probably would bother me.

XO Bride - I just looked at your pinterest board and love your FG dress.  It is actually very similar to my 2nd dress for the after-party/end of reception.

  • Thanks Michelle.  My sister found it at a thrift store and I think she paid $5-10 for it. :)

  • We are using hydrangeas, roses, dahlias and mini gerber daisies in pink and white for our flowers. dahlias have a similar statement making effect as peonies do, if you are looking for a replacement...
and yea, I was floored when our flower quote came in just under $2000!!!

  • I'm very surprised on how many girls are using hydrangeas.  I'd never seen a wedding with hydrangeas and yet almost everyone that's posted thus far has them as part of their flowers.
