Uh oh, dress dilemma

So I'm having major dress remorse. I think I watch too much "Say Yes to the Dress." Instead of spilling the entire story on how I chose this dress let me just get your opinion.

First dress is my dress, I still need to get alterations to make it fit (it's still too tight).
Second dress is one I can't stop looking at on David's website. I am really considering going to try this on next week. I like how the skirt is not so fitted and I would be able to move (and pee!) more so than the dress I have.

  • I like both of them personally.  The first one looks really good on you so I think you should just stick with it!

  • I honestly like your dress best - but it's your dress so if it's in budget I'd try it on at least and see if they could get it to you in time even.

  • I would NOT go try it on. With only 13 weeks left, they may not be able to get it to you in time. Doesn't it take like 4 or 5 months for dresses to come in? (My gown was my aunts). That would suck wouldn't it? To go try on this dress, fall in love with it, then find out they can't get it to you in time. Or that you'd have to pay a huge rush fee. To me, when you have a beautiful dress already, that just doesn't seem worth it.

If you watch SYTTD, you should know Randy says when you find the dress: just like you've chosen your FI, it's time to stop looking! You can't keep wondering what else is out there and be wanting to try things on or you'll go nuts.

What I WOULD do is when you go to the seamstress, ask if there is anything that can be done to the skirt to let it out and seem a little more full. Bring a long the picture of the 2nd dress, perhaps, so she/he can get an idea of what you want. Depending on the cut and fabric, they may be able to work with it. Maybe this would give you the look and feel you are wanting.

I agree with all of this.  DONT GO TRY IT ON!!  You could be setting yourself up for disappointment.  I actually like your original dress better anyway, you have an amazing silhouette in it!   A good seamstress will be able to make your first dress flare a little higher so you get the feel you want.

Wise advice from the Randy.  I love, love, love your dress!  It's fun to look at others, but it can really make you second guess your decision and make you nuts.  I would stick with what you got, or you could end up coming down to the wire with trying to get a new dress in and altered in 3 months.

  • I appreciate everyone's feedback, really. But I have decided to go against what you all have suggested and I made myself an appointment for Wednesday evening. I knew that after talking to my mom this morning that I should do it. I thought she was going to be against it but she surprised me by saying, "What's with the dress you emailed to me? It's so pretty!" She didn't go with me when I went dress shopping back in July because of her work schedule, so I must say I'm pretty excited to share the experience with her.

As far as the dress goes, when I talked to David's today they told me that they have a lot of their dresses in stock and if not then they can contact a nearby store to see if they have it. Luckily there are four stores that are within an hour and half to two hours from me.

I will keep you all updated and post how my appointment goes :)

  • I hope it goes well for you! Who knows, maybe you will try this dress on and hate it and this will be the confirmation you need that dress 1 is the dress. Or maybe you will love it and they will have it in your size. I just hope you don't try it on, love it, and they tell you it can't be ordered in time.

    Let us know!

<div>Good idea! And maybe the size bigger and smaller too, just in case that designer runs big/small. </div>
