Our photographer is making thank you cards that have a cool collage of some of our wedding photos right on the cover. They are super cute. I haven't gotten a photo IN a thank you in years....
DH is a graphic designer and he designed all of our "paper" so he made matching thank you notes. We are putting a small photo of the two of us in with it though.
We picked a photo we liked and ordered photo thank you cards from Shutterfly (with a decorative border and blank inside).
We also got our photos back within three weeks, though. If we had to wait two months or longer for them, I probably would've just bought plain thank you cards so I could get them out on time.
One caviat however, this does not get you off the hook for writing a personal thank you. We have a friend that sends photo thank you's for everything and never writes a thank you message. I love her dearly but I always feel like it's incredibly insincere.

I always write a nice, personal thank you :) So you ordered the one sided type that people send around Xmas? Is it proper to make a folding photo thank you and werite inside? Or should I use the thank you's I have a possibly send a phot thank you as an extra?
We're doing a photo thank you card, but for all the gifts we're getting before the wedding I've been sending a thank you right away on regular stationery because I don't want to forget anyone.
We just got a photo thank you from FI's colleage that was a postcard with the picture thank you on the front and they wrote a personal note on the back and mailed it in an envelope. You can do that if you don't want/can't find a folded card. I think they did it on Vistaprint.

I don't care what kind of card it is, as long as there's a handwritten thank you someplace on/in the card.
We ordered folded cards, with our picture on the front and blank inside. I've seen others with a pre-printed generic message on/in it ("Thank you for sharing our joy!") and then a handwritten thank you on/in it. I don't have a problem with a pre-printed message as long as a personal handwritten note is included.
I agree with Uppereast that I find the flat, Christmas-style cards a bit more informal than folded note cards, but if it's got a handwritten thank you on it then I would never complain about it. I never find a thank you note tacky unless the body of the note is a pre-printed message (writing my name and/or signing your name doesn't count as a handwritten thank you).
I would be more apt to keep a photo thank you card than I would a wallet-sized photo print, but I still like getting the prints if the couple elects to send non-photo cards. I like having the photos of friends. We're sending prints to some guests, but they're prints of them or their families (like, the group photo of high school friends will all get that group photo).

Love, Allison!" Something a 5 year old would do.
meh - as long as i get the thank you, i dont care if its hand written or not. i really just want to confirm my gift was received. my friend just sent thank yous from her wedding and it had photos of them from the wedding all over it....and then a thank you note printed as well. i thought it was so cute! i didnt even think twice about it not being hand written until i read this post!
anyhoo - we'll do a photo as well. i think you can print them SUPER cheap at costco.
We ordered 100 wallet sized photos to include in our thank you cards. We'll probably just stick these in the thank you cards to the family - which will use up all 100. Friends will just get the thank you card.
My cousin and his wife sent out thank yous with a picture of the life buoy made up for their wedding (it was a NC beach wedding). It had their name on the buoy on the beach, and it was very sweet. They then hand-wrote out personalized notes.
I've actually kept it, it was so sweet. We did not make it to the wedding, and were only able to send a small gift (we were seriously broke at the time), but the thank you note was sincere, sweet, and very much the two of them.
Frankly, it's the one idea I'm thinking of stealing from their planning!
we did a folded card from shutterfly....i waited until i got the cd with the pics from our photog.... and then i wrote out each one....mh said he'd help, but, it took so long to make the thank yous, i couldn't wait for him to help me....

Our photographer showed us two kinds of photo TY cards, one that is folding and allows us to write inside, the other like the Christmas ones. On the Christmas ones, he told us to expect to NOT be able to write on the backs of them as they will have print marks from the lab. We're going with the folding kind just because the other does seem too informal.
