Fantasia

So, i went dress shopping here last thursday, ya know, during the freakin' monsoon that was happening, but my MOH really wanted to go with me and that's when we were both available...let's just say it was an interesting experience...i will first say that i have already been to Brides & Grooms and the Bridal & Tuxedo outlet, both of which are very nice, good service, clean, etc...Fantasia was a whole other ballgame...we went in the evening, there was only one older lady in the store...she only let me try on 5 dresses, they make you wear their own bra and slip thing which was weird for me (so i had 2 bras on!) and i couldn't take any photos of me in the dresses, it just so happens that i found 2 dresses that i kinda liked and i wanted to show my mom, but the woman said no, so that was kinda irritating...the really ridiculous thing for me was that the woman kept telling me to get in the dress while on the pedestal and she was helping me into the dresses, first off- i'm tall, this woman was short, so shortie is trying to get me into a dress when i'm up on the pedestal and already towering above her...it just wasn't working out too well for me, then to top it off, they don't use any clips to tighten the dress!!! (b/c they were all too big) so now shortie is holding the dress on me so i can look at it, it was just dumb...every time i moved to look in the mirror she had to move with me...annoying...plus i had already read from others that they don't like to give out the dress makers, well, when i asked i thought she wasn't going to tell me, but she finally did...of course, now i can't find either dress online which also irritates me...i also had to get out of the dress while simultaneously getting off the pedestal, disaster waiting to happen! anyways, thought i would share my experience!

Wow.  Sounds like they really value customer service... glad I didn't go there!!!  I try very hard to be a nice, polite person... but when I feel like I'm being taken advantage of, or when someone threatens someone I love... I kind of turn into a crazy monster.  Crazy monster DEFINITELY would have come out at Fantasia!!!

Yeah, I have heard all of that from other people (my cousin had a horrible experience there).

What are the names of the dresses?  Maybe we can help you out!

I went there a couple of years ago to try on a couple bridemaid's gown my friend liked. I hated that place. They definitely do not like customers...I find it so hard to believe that they are still in business. I can understand taking some precautions, but the women there treat you like an idiot and assume you are there to rip them off.

If you haven't already, try Claire's on Philadephia Pike. I can't say enough good things about them. They have a separate bridal suite that is private for you and whomever you bring with you. You can try on as many dresses as you'd like and if you want the consultant to help you in and out of a dress they will, but they don't force it. Chloe was/is my consultant and I love her. She's honest and very sweet. She loves her job and it shows. Also they have dresses at all price points.

Sorry to hear about your experience at Fantasia.

I bought my dress there and had a great experience with them.  It sounds like you got the owner that day.  She's a very no nonsense, by HER book kind of person.  She's been running that store for decades and I guess there's just no changing her now.

Good luck with your search and have fun!!

I totally get it! I went there a few years ago (the first time I was engaged) to try on dresses and it was the same way. No pictures, very cramped store, only a couple of dresses. It was definately an awkward experience. I did however find a dress that I loved!!! So when the time finally came for me to purchase my dress, I went back to see if they still had it. I couldn't remember who made it and they didn't really know but they were very helpful and tried to show me online some similar dresses that they carry. I didn't try any on the second time but i thought it was nice for them to help. The first experience though didn't make me feel like a bride at all. And I will always think about the dress that got away..... lol
