  I would say as soon as you find someone you like and finalize your date!  These artists get booked pretty fast duriing spring, summer, and fall in the northeast.  Good luck!!

  I would say as soon as you find someone and your date is confirmed.  But I would prioritize finding vendors  - since photographers, decorators/florists, makeup artists only do a certain number of weddings per weekend, I would finalize those first.   I was working in a 6 month time frame from when I got engaged to the wedding date, and i finalized my mehendi person about 4 months before the wedding.
