Electronic STD's?

We are trying to cut corners where possible, so I am debating on doing electronic STD's to those who check their email often (basically, all of our friends) and having magnets made for those who don't (Grandparents, older family members that aren't very computer saavy...or don't own a computer at all, etc.).  But then I question whether somebody will get their feelings hurt because they didn't get a magnet (I mean, I personally wouldn't care, but I know some people are like that).  IDK - what would you ladies do?  OH - and although I know it's probably posted somewhere a million times....how far in advance do you send STD's??

Re: Electronic STD's?

  • Usually they're sent between 6-8 months before the date. If it were me I would probably send everyone a paper/magnet std. If you worried about cost check Vistaprint for std's, they seem to have low prices, good deals.

  • If you're ok with postcards instead of magnets, Vistaprint offers 100 free postcards quite often. All you pay is shipping. My order came to only $6.35! :)

  • We chose to do our magenets through Vistaprint.  We got 100 magnets for about $30 including shipping using a groupon.  There is another one out right now (even better than mine was), someone already posted it on another thread on this board.

  • I wouldn't send some an email and others a magnet; you will upset people even though it's not your intention. And if you really want to cut corners, don't send STDs; it's not a mandatory thing. You could always call those who may need the extra time to plan; I'll bet they'd like that even more than a card :)

  • And remember, STDs are not a necessity.  They started as a courtesy for OOT weddings, but 10 years ago no one knew what they were.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I made some STD's using layered cardstock and ribbon and just printed them out using my home printer. They look cute and simple and cost maybe $20? I would definitely suggest that if your cost conscious.
  • I agree I would stick to doing the same thing for everyone. I'm also not one for sticking with the timelines and I sent mine out in November because it's on a very busy long weekend and we also have alot of people coming from out of country.

  • I agree on doing the same for everyone. I think we are having a friend design one for us and give it to us as a jpeg then we will have them printed at Costco. As an aside, I keep hearing you guys talk about groupon's for vistaprint. How do you sign up for those? Is it actually from Groupon?
