Opinions on including my website in invitations

I could use some opinions here....my stationer told me that printed directions to the church and/or venue are becoming a thing of the past in wedding invitations. She says most people use GPS now anyways, so instead of including detailed directions, you include the venue's full address on your invitation and people find their own directions. I half-agree with it...part of me still feels the need to provide my guests with every bit of information that they could possibly need for my wedding. She says "you don't need to spoon-feed these people!" which makes me chuckle :)

I was thinking, as a compromise, I would slip a small piece of ivory paper (same color as the invitations) into each envelope, which includes the URL to our website, and says "For driving directions and information on accomodations, visit our wedding website"

Does this seem too non-traditional? We aren't having a SUPER formal wedding but it is definitely somewhat formal (evening wedding). Our website has a lot of info - directions, area hotels, our full menu, registry info, and my e-mail address for people with questions. I'd like all of our guests to know about the website because I think it will be a useful resource for them.

Thoughts? TIA!

Re: Opinions on including my website in invitations

  • For my invitations, I printed a map of the local area, with icons on the venue, hotels we've got blocks at, a resturant, and two local attractions. I put the full addresses to all of these on the bottom of the paper with the map. There's no directions, but my venue is also directly off the highway, so I didn't feel the need. I used weddingmapper.com

I also included an accomodation card ("If you'd like to block a hotel room, call...."), and at the bottom of the card it says "For more information, please visit [our website." Our website has directions, another copy of the map, etc.

I definitely think you should have your website address in your invitation somewhere- what's the point in having it if people never see it? Whether you also include a map/directions is up to you. I like it, because it's great for older and OOT guests to get a feel of the area.
  • I actually got free business cards printed at vistaprint that say, "For more information, including directions and hotel accommodations, please visit our website" and I listed out the website. That has our registry info on it as well. I'm just putting the card in each envelope like you mentioned. I think it's the best way to get people to look at the website for all that extra information.

  • Yup! You get 250 for free...just pay s&h (around $5). My invitations are ivory as well, but I just picked a plain white card (there aren't many options for the free ones). Hope this helps :)
  • I'm making my own invites and I was actually thinking the same thing today! I do think that most people will use a GPS. I decided that I am including directions, but not a map, sometimes the GPS gets funky or can't find the address. Better safe than sorry! I want to make sure my guests are there on time.

I printed and inserted a card in with my invitations that said:
    Accommodations and Directions:
For Accommodations in (name of city) and Directions to (name of venue) please visit: (wedding website)
For guests who were local and I know don't use a computer often I printed driving directions to the venue instead.
  • I'm just putting a line on the bottom of the RSVP card, that says "For more information, visit www.MeandHim2012.com&quot;.

  • We'll be getting small business card sized inserts that say 'for more information please visit our website: www..xyz'. And I like the idea of putting the venue's full address on the other side of the card.

As long as you have plenty of information on the website you'll be more than fine. As a guest I'd prefer to have a link to a website to get info rather than a binder sized invite with lots of pieces of paper.

I did both....double sided piece of paper (though some people said they didn't know it was double sided) (I did it to save money!), on one side it had directions and then the other side had accomidations & the wedding website. I think both is a good compromise! We do have some elderly people who may not be well versed in the "intranet"!

<div>We are doing this exactly.  Not everyone has a GPS (I don't, FI doesn't, my parents do in their cars but they NEVER use it) so we're printing directions.</div><div>
</div><div>And now that I think about it, most of the wedding invites I've received over the last few years have included directions.</div>

I am doing double sided for my insert too and I read somewhere that people might not notice the other side, sounded very strange to me since you have to take it out of the pocketfold to read it, but whatever! I'm thinking of putting something on the bottom that says "see other side for more information" so that hopefully they notice the other side.

  • For those of you doing directions, where are they starting from? Just "east and west"? We've got people coming from 7 or 8 different states and all across the state, so I guess you could start from the airports?
  • We didn't give directions. But I think what you're planning is a great idea

  • I just ordered plain business cards with an ivory background and a script-y black font that says "For driving directions, area hotels, and more...please visit our website" I ordered them online so I the exact colors might be slightly different, but I am REALLY hoping that the ivory business card isn't too different from the ivory color of our invitations. I imagine they will be somewhat close in color, so I think it'll be fine. I hate to break etiquette by inserting a card into the invitation that doesn't match the rest of the invitation materials..but hey, girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I just want to send these damn things out already!
