QOTD - 4/9

If you could pick a certain age to remain forever what would you pick and why?

Re: QOTD - 4/9

  • I am thinking probably 35. The reason I say that is I will be done with school, have a career, and a family.

  • FSIL read an article that said 33 is the happiest age, so maybe that?

Really I have a lot of answers to this question. I think I normally lean more towards remaining a kid forever. My heart will always stay that way. :)
  • I'd say early retirement.  At that point my kids are on their own and self sufficient, maybe even a grandkid or two.  Plus we'd be okay for money but it'd be before our bodies start on the downhill decline lol.

I heard this on the radio!

I'm not sure what age I'd pick. I want to say an age I haven't been yet, like 33, but if I had to pick an age I already experienced, I'd say 18. My senior year of high school/beginning of college was so much fun.

  • I've also heard that retired or just before retirement age is happiest. I don't know how I feel. I'd probably like to stay 30.
  • If I had to pick an age I already had, I would go back to the end of 17, early 18.  That was the year I was in France.  Well, assuming I could still stay in France of course ;)
  • PS Meg, that picture of you/FI is priceless lol.
  • I'd be 29! that way I'm still in my 20's but still old enough that I will be married and maybe have a kid or two.
  • I think I would pick somewhere around 32.... that way all of our kids would still be little, FI and I would still be young and we could just enjoy our kiddos! They grow up way too fast!

  • As long as FI makes it that far, the age at which both of us have just retired. We plan on traveling the world once we're retired, and we plan to buy a Ferrari in Italy : But then again, FI has Crohn's, and while I'm hoping treatment advances, right now the average lifespan is like 60 years though I'm sure many of those people didn't have the treatment that's available now, so just to be safe I'd like to say early 30s, because we'll both still be young, we'll have great jobs and a family.

I'm pretty happy right now. I'll say 25 though (give myself a year) because I certainly wouldn't want to be planning a wedding forever.

  • Two years ago I would have said 30, that was before I knew my husband was dieing. But I would not have had my youngest son and would not have had the last 8 years with him. So I really can't pick a year. I miss my husband Lorin everyday, it has been 6 years since he died. But I love my life with my FI and I would hate to miss out on our lifes together, so nope can't pick.

  • I'd be pretty content at 25 also, but I am thinking maybe 30 as we hope to have children by than :)

  • I would say 40. Its the next big birthday I'm looking forward too and by that time FI and I will have had (God willinging)all 3 of the children that we want and we would be more then settled into married life by then. Also I don't know if its just because I'm just passed the 30th b day but 40 seems like a sexy age to me.

I'm pretty happy at 29. My career is in a good place, I don't want children so I don't have to worry about that factoring in. My body parts are still in the original places. I could stay here. Although getting your period for the rest of your life isn't really appetizing...

  • I'd have to say right about here. I'll say 34 so I'll be happily married and not planning a wedding. We're not having kids together, and our lives right now are pretty damn perfect. LJ2012, I have Crohn's as well. It's been a rough road with a lot of major surgeries, but I'm 33 and the healthiest I've ever been since I was diagnosed at 12. I chose now because of that. I'd otherwise say retirement age I plan on being around then, but I'm not sure how my health will be. FI and I plan to squeeze a lot of living in before then! : I hope your FI isn't struggling too much now, and I'm certain miracle drugs will be found in the near future so we won't have to worry too much! :

<div>Wow. I am so sorry for your losses, but I'm happy that you have found happiness again!</div>
  • KJeffs, I'm so sorry for your loss but I'm glad you were able to find happiness again. I'm sure Lorin is looking down on your whole family and smiling. *hugs*
  • Hmmm... good question!  Definitely not any year of my 20s (sorry ladies/gents, they totally suck). Things turned around in my 30s.  Every year I learn something new about myself and the world, so I'd like to think life will just keep getting better and better!  I'll be 33 in August, so we'll see if it lives up to the hype :)

I had a lot of fun when I was 19/20.  Still young enough to not have to be committed to anything, but old enough to be responsible for my decisions.  Those were the best years of my life so far! It's hard to pick a year in the future, but at least 28, because by then I will be finished school and hopefully in a career that I actually enjoy.....might possibly have some babies as well :)

My FI is the healthiest he's ever been, too! He developed it somewhere around age 12, and he ended up malnourished. He's had a few surgeries, too, but only a couple of them were Crohn's related. He's shorter than he should be, and he has osteoarthritis, but his latest bone density scan was normal! So that's encouraging. He has renovate infusions every 8 weeks and takes like 15 pills a day, but so far he's doing good. His heartbeat is fast, though, and that's the main thing I'm worried about. I'm glad you're healthy, too!

I'm standing in a room full of FI's family and about to cry reading your post. FFIL is 61 and has Crohns. The thought of losing him makes me want to bawl. FI has already had two
bouts of diverticulitis and we are afraid Crohns may be in his future. I can't bear the thought of losing him even 30 years from now.
  • I would have to choose 18.  I was a senior in high school, dating FI, and was very happy!  I had big dreams and no responsibility, blissfully unaware of real world troubles.  I loved that year!

Aww! On a positive note, that only applies to people who develop it before the age of 22 or something. People who develop it later have a normal average lifespan : technology and medicine is getting better, so that gives me hope!

I've always said I stopped getting older at 25, but it wasn' t a very happy year. I will say I'd stay 39 because hopefully I'll have a baby or too and FI and I will still be healthy and happy. (I'll be 37 next month).
  • Also, it terrifies me to think that I might lose him earlier than if e didn't have Crohn's but what keeps me going is that I know that even if it does happen, I won't regret anything. We make the most of our time together and we have so many memories already that I'll keep forever. I also hold out hope that his Crohn's stays in remission and that anything that happens can be fixed by medicine and technology.
