XP- Where to put the zip code?

I'm not sure what the proper way to do it is. I've seen it both but wasn't sure if one way was better or preferred to the other.

Does the zip code go to the right of the city and state or does it go below the city and state?

City, State XXXXX

or

City, State
XXXXX

Re: XP- Where to put the zip code?

  • To the right:

           Beverly Hills, CA  90410

Machines read and sort mail looking for that format.

Every time they cannot read something, they spit it down a machine shute to another machine and then a person.

Not conforming to postal regs means that an invitation going a long distance could go through 6-8 extra machines.  Several extra human handlings.  End up a mess.
  • Do you mean on the invitation or on the envelope?  Zips should not be included on the invitation itself.  On the envelope, the USPS prefers them to the right of the state, BUT I don't think they're aesthetically pleasing there, and I put them on the line below.  All our invites went out just fine.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • Thank you! Sorry I should have clarified, I did mean on the envelope.  I like the way it looks underneath but I wasn't sure if they would get sent back to me if I did it that way.
  • I put ours underneath and they were all received.
  • Ours are going underneath, but to the right. So like:

    Los Angeles, California
                               90085

Trust me, it looks better written out than it does here.
