Photographers??

Most photographers I've found range from $2000-$3500 for the cheapest package. What is a good deal and what things did you want included in your day? I want a photographer who will do the album for us because I'm not a very creative person and would find a hard time making one since my son will be starting school shortly after our wedding. I would like for the whole day to be taken in photos. My plan is to put one-time cameras on the tables for guests to also take pictures while the wedding is going on. Any ideas?

Re: Photographers??

  • You should probably post this on your local board, a good photographer can be anywhere from 800-6000 depending on where you are and the package that comes with.
Do NOT use disposable cameras, they are a waste of $$ and you can't get any decent shots with one. Instead, most people will bring their digital cameras, include a note card on the table or escort card saying We'd love to see the photos you've taken of our day! Please share them at _____ (Snapfish, for example) Login :  Password :
Then you get pictures and they wont all be as terrible as single use cameras are, as well as it doesn't cost you anything.
  • I agree with belle.  Photographer's prices and packages vary depending on the region of the country you're in.  Someone from Fargo can tell you what they spent, but it really won't help you in the DC area where things are decidedly more expensive.

I also hope you take her advice on disposable cameras.  Because she's right.  There's a reason disposables (single use) are inexpensive.  That's because the quality of photos is crappy.  And you have to pay to develop the pictures to find out that they're crappy.

And, people who have had too much to drink take pictures that they find amusing:  floors, bathrooms, toilets, people using toilets, ceilings.  My niece had them on her table.  The child at one of the tables comandeered the camera and took lovely pictures of the grass.  Every single photo was of the grass.

Much better to use a photo sharing site, or assume that all the pictures your friends and family take will be on facebook by the next morning.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Photography prices vary a lot by location but Baltimore area photographers might be comparable.

We paid about half of the lower range you mentioned for a photographer from Annapolis.  That was for 6 hours photography, an engagement session, and DVDs with rights to print.  Our photographer's business was still being established though, so now she starts in the $1500-2000 range, a little more for packages with full day photography and albums.
  • Thanks for the idea belle didn't think of that :) would certianly be cheaper too. well I'm a little south of DC but that's the closest to my area. I found one last night for $1600 unlimited hours w/a dvd and an album which is a big plus because I want a formal wedding album

  • We got a packaage for $2200 in Richmond, so what you're saying for the DC area sounds about right.  We have 6 hours and an album.  I don't remember exactly, but each additional hour isn't very much.  Remember that most photographers keep their images forever, so if you can't afford an album right now, you can wait a while and buy one later when you have the funds for it.
