HELP- Downtown chicago hotel dilema

This is my 1st post here. I hope someone can help me. Im trying to decide between having my wedding at holiday inn mart plaza or swissotel. I have to make my decision this week.

Both hotels have great views. The swissotel is a bit more expensive but is much classier looking inside and out. The holiday inn gives more for our money but has an industrial looking entrance.

The meal is important to us. The swissotel offers a salad, chicken entree and wedding cake as desert. Whereas, for the same money, the holiday inn offers appetizer, soup, salad and a choice of entree but we have to provide our own cake. I am concerned that the meal at swissotel wont be filling enough for our guests and we are paying a lot of money!

The other thing is there is most likely going to be construction going on in the carpark in front of the holiday inn. I just worry about guests 1st impressions. The room for the wedding is lovely though.

We have a lot of guests coming from europe for the wedding and dont want them to be broke afterwards! The swissotel block book rate is $230 whereas the holiday inn is $150. I did see on lastminute.com that the swissotel can be got for $180 though.

I just dont know what to do! We both absolutely love the swissotel but are worried about the meal and cost to guests, we really like the holiday inn too where we will get more for our money but the construction may ruin peoples 1st impressions.

The swissotel is stretching our budget a little bit whereas the holiday inn is just on budget.

Advice on choosing will be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone got married at either hotel Id love to hear your reviews!

Thanks so much Smile

Quoting so I can read it. The text carried across the page and was blocked by the ads.
  • How much would it cost to add a salad and/or appetizer to the Swissotel package? Even though the Swissotel is already stretching your budget, you can always trim the budget in other areas. It sounds like that's the one you really want, so it might be worth it.

For example, if the Swissotel is going to charge another $500 for appetizers/salad, you could reduce your dress by $100, flowers by $100, invitations by $100, skip monogrammed napkins, skip programs, skip cake utensils, skip the "bride" hoodie... That's just an example. There are LOTS of areas you can trim your budget to make it work.

</div><div>Thanks thats an idea!. Its just strange as they dont offer any more food for the main meal as the packages get more expensive just beef instead of chicken and a late night pizza station. I will ask if they can add an appetizer. :-)

  • If you love the Swissotel, go for it.  I don't know too many people who wouldn't be full after salad, chicken and cake!  You can also book room blocks at both hotels and let your guests choose whichever option fits their pocketbooks the best.
