Newly Engaged - Where to start

Hi there. I am newly engaged and thought I would join 'the knot" to get ideas on how to get started. I'm completely new at this so I guess I'll just browse through the discussions. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.

Re: Newly Engaged - Where to start

  • Set your budget.  Then think about a guest count.  Those two things will then determine your reception or possibilities for it.
  • Once you have determined a budget and a tentative guest count, work to book your reception venue and photographer. Both of those book up VERY far in advance and were the most time consuming for me. You don't want to finally decide on a venue or a photographer and find them booked, only to have to start over!

  • Congrats! First contact your family & Friends! Then set a budget and guest count those two things go hand on hand...next find a planner. This well help you with your vendor search the planner would be able to help narrow your search by your preference and needs. Congrats again
  • Congrats!! First off!
What was super helpful for me was to get a wedding binder (i got one at B&N) and it walked me through what I should do.

I did things a little diffrently. I started witht he guest list to get an idea of how big/small our wedding (roughly) was going to be. Then we worked out our budget. Based on those two things we started shopping for venues that were in our price range that could accomodate the general amount of people.

If you are planning on having your ceremony at a house of worship, start doing your research their as well....we are getting married in a Catholic church and the classes we have to take are spread out over a period of time...this helped us determine our wedding date as well.

My biggest piece of advice.....relax and enjoy your engagement and when planning gets stressful...stop for the day!
  • Finding your venue is one of the first to do.... take a look at www.TownHallTexas.com. 5 miles east of The Woodlands mall. Rustic/western venue, 10 acres, 3,000sqft barn, 1.5 acre pond - 2 outdoor ceremony sites (1 is located on an island in the middle of the pond (seats up to 150). $6,498 for up to 100($15/ea after 100) guests for all day Saturday or $5,498 for up to 50. They are flexible and can work with you on the rate, etc. Although the barn only seats 150, they have 10 acres and an outdoor reception with DJ/dancing, buffet food line and bar served inside the barn would be amazing! Good luck!
