Chose a venue, Set a date!

Ah! So excited! We're doing Los Vaqueros on May 25th, 2013. I know I still lurk more than post here currently, but I was so excited, I wanted to share! I'm taking the deposit down tomorrow or wednesday to make it official!

I know I posted a while back about having some trouble with FI really not even wanting to have one, but since we deicded on the date, he's been so much more involved and willing to talk wedding with me! I think having the date set reminded him why we're doing it in the first place.

On a sadder note, he's going out of town next week, and we're moving apartments the week after that, which means I have a lot of cleaning and packing to do on my own =(

Re: Chose a venue, Set a date!

  • Oh that's great!  Glad things are moving along now and he's getting excited.
  • After the venue, it's so much easier for the other pieces to fall into place. One thing I did that was very helpful was go to the reviews of your venue on Wedding Wire, and then see what all other vendors they used for photography, florists, etc.
It made me feel comfortable to talk to vendors who had precviously worked with the space and felt comfortable doing their job there.
    Congrats again!
  • nice, I'll be getting married there the week before you! I still need to get the details all worked out as to what we're going to be eating and drinking and all, Vicki is going to set us up with a tasting so we can try some different things. I'm sure she'll offer the same to you if you don't already know what you want Smile

Vicki is fabulous! I am having my rehearsal dinner at Los Vaqueros in October and am doing all my planning from out of town. She even did a tasting for me. Such a delight to work with and she cares as much as your event as you do!

Ah! I almost hate you a little! (not really) Michael told me that all the days were open one night, and then next morning, AFTER FI and I decided on the 18th and got really excited about that date, he told me that someone already had a hold on it. But it all works out, because it turns out that your weekend is when Texas Tech's graduation will most likely be, and I think one of the GM is set to graduate next year, so you actually saved me from a major potential conflict!

I did not even think of that, that is so smart, thank you!
  • arco, we almost went with the 11th but then we were worried that the TCU graduation might make it harder to find hotels, a lot of our guests are out-of-towners. Glad it is working out ok for you to have it the 25th though! They were laughing at me a bit because I was stressing about getting the venue booked 13 months in advance and I guess thats not usually the norm at los vaqueros, but it is such a relief to know where and when everything is going to be, it makes all the rest of the planning and researching a lot easier. We're trying to get our photographer and officiant booked this week; every time another thing is decided it takes a little bit of weight off the shoulders!

    Karulyne-

How long are you waiting to announce your wedding party. I'm 98% sure who I want to include, but I've seen on the board and in real life how quickly things can change. I was in a wedding where the MOH and Bride were lifelong best friends, but had a falling out and the MOH basically did nothing to help plan the shower, bachelorette, and was super late to the RD, etc. The Bride barely talks to her anymore, and her closest friend now is someone who wasn't even in the wedding, but was very involved at the end. I figure since we're on almost the exact same timeline your advice would be handy.
  • Oh thats sad! I actually already did talk to my bridesmaids about being in the wedding so hopefully I haven't set myself up for anything! I'm having 4 bridesmaids, and 2 of them I really did need to ask immediately because they live in CT (where I grew up), the other two are my closest friends here in TX. I didn't really stress on choosing because it seemed pretty natural, the CT girls are sisters that I've known since I was 6 and I'm equally close to them so it was a no-brainer to have them both, and two TX girls were my roommates in college, they're both already married and we were all bridesmaids for each other, I wanted them to be there for me like I was for them. I have seen some bridesmaids and brides have fallings-out in the past due to bridezilla behavior, but I am determined to not be that bride! There were a few other people I thought about adding to the party, but 4 seemed like a good number.
