The poll was inspired by FB rantings by SIL:
<School Name> parents: Slowly getting more info on the "dress code" for next year. Sounds as if it will be uniforms (although that isn't a term the school board is using).
I'M AGAINST IT. I'll provide clothing coverage, paper and pencils for my child; you educate her from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. That's the deal. Stop messing with a perfectly good system, or I'll have to renew her home-based education on Fighting The Man.
ummmmm, ok. For one thing, it's not a perfectly good system, unless "perfectly good" means teaching classism early. For another, if anyone would benefit from school uniforms, it's her kids and her wallet.
A follow-up post from her:
FELLOW <SCHOOLNAME> PARENTS:
Chatted with a state's attorney this afternoon, and the parental advisory committee (that we expect to recommend a uniform at the next school board meeting) is NOT subject to the open meetings act. Bummer.
Which means we will still attend said meeting, and still advise the board ourselves of what we think of the uniform policy.
Seriously? This chick needs a job. She has way too much damn time on her hands. She also expressed shock that any other parent would agree to such a thing.
She had to attend some kind of class or something to become a certified Field Trip Chaperone (or something or other). Not something I had heard of, but yeah, probably a good idea to get everyone on the same page or throw in a CPR lesson or something.
She came home LIVID because they said they would be running background checks on the chaperones. God forbid anyone try to prevent sex offenders from chaperoning grade school field trips.
I finally had to hide her stuff on FB. I never should have friended her in the first place, but unfriending her would not endear me to the family at all.

Re: school uniforms - follow up
Background checks are no big deal. Neither are the classes.
I just a friendly gal looking for options.

...as long as you have nothing to hide.
maybe she's worried they'll find out about her stint as an internet porn sensation
i'm imagining her being one of those "my child would never do that..." type of person.

Or her bankruptcy filing.
I'm also intrigued by that timeline. Seems like every school around here gets out at 2:30, or at least that's what time it is when I am stopping for a zillion buses to let kids off at their houses.
SIL probably doesn't get to sleep anyway. She has the 7yo, a 3yo, and an almost-2yo. Yet somehow she finds time to consult attorneys about school board rules.

That poor attorney. You know it's a friend of a friend who offered to help out and now completely regrets ever meeting this woman.
She is smarter than that, Zilla. I think.
eh. We have a LOT of incompatible parenting philosophies. It gives me good practice in keeping my mouth shut and having a poker face. (I still suck at that.)
I am amazed, though, that SIL thinks all of this is a horrible intrusion of the government, but bmom does not. Now I know she's BSC.
