Flab help

I found my dress today (YAY!) and now it is definitely time to step it up and get in chape. I am VERY self-conscious and DO NOT like how my arms look! I also don't like my back fat that tends to slip over my dress in the back. Any suggestions for toning up (and losing weight!) so I don't have so much flab on my wedding day?

Re: Flab help

  • My friend is using a few home workout programs to help her prep for her big day.  If you are interested, I can ask her for the name(s) & where she got them.

  • Strength training is really importnt for toning.  Do you exercise regularly now?  If so, make sure to do at least 2-3 days of strength training/week.

For dropping some pounds, there are a lot of great free websites out there (sparkpeople, myfitnesspal, livestrong).  They will help you figure out a calorie range and track your calories and exercise.  Tracking calories will be very helpful to know exactly what you are eating.

  • 4pages-I would love the names of the workouts! I don't have a ton of time to make it to the gym so I've been trying to get a workout in everyday at home...either taking the dog for a run or doing pushups and situps...anything to help
  • I do all my workouts from home, so it is definitely possible. You just have to get creative and have a set of dumbells. I purchased everything at Target or K-Mart for all less than $10. Some of my workout DVD's came from amazon as "like new but used" condition and those are definitely a steal.

I would highly recommend the Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout for both cardio and toning. It has a great 10minute upper body section that works the arms, chest, and back. It also has a lower body and cardio section, and then a warm up and cool down. It comes with a 6 week program you can follow or you can use the workouts seperately on your own schedule.

It is a great DVD to learn some easy moves on how to tone your upper and lower body with weight training and really reduce the back fat. Even after I had lost a bunch of weight I still had the flab hanging over my dress and this DVD really helped.

  • It's hard (read: impossible) to shrink only specific parts of your body. If you want your arms and back to be thinner, the only thing you can really do is cut your calories and amp up your exercise to lose weight in general.  It'll come off from everywhere.

Strength training will help tighten up and tone certain areas and should definitely be a part of your workouts, but it won't get rid of fat.

This is so true. I have dropped 35 lbs in 5 months without practically trying. I prefer going to the gym 4-5 day's a week to get better results. I do a ton of training on my arms because that is my biggest concern. Also, cardio is so important also because it gets your heart rate up and helps for all over the body!
  • Oh, I forgot to mention I go to a gym that has circuit training as well as all the other stuff and it is only $10 a month!
  • Didn't notice that you cant get to the gym. Have you ever heard of the pilates ring. You can find it at sports authority for about $30 and it works miracles!
