Rehearsal dinner locations

I am looking for a restaurant in Baltimore for my rehearsal dinner in August 2010.  There will be 40-50 guests, and my fiance's father would like to have American food and seafood.  Any recommendations??? Thanks and Happy New Year:)

Do you have a preference for neighborhood?  That might help us get some ideas.

My rehearsal is at the Baltimore Basilica, so somewhere near the Mt Vernon area would be great.  But the Inner Harbour, Fells Point, or Federal Hill would all be fine too if we found a good place.

We are looking at teh Rusty Scupper and the Admiral Fell Inn.

The Rusty Scupper is awesome for the view, and we're having a lot of out-of-towners on my FI's side, so it would be really nice to have it at a place that embodied the atmosphere of the city.  Plus their menu has lots of seafood, and I think their crabcakes are pretty good.  It's on Key Highway, right across the street from Federal Hill Park.  I've heard from "true Baltimoreans" (lol) that it's a little touristy and overpriced, and that the inside isn't that nice... btu from others I've heard that it's really nice.  So we're going to have to actually go and see it ourselves to determine.

We originally wanted to have our wedding reception at the Admiral Fell Inn, but due to it's very small size we would have had to cut our guest list in half and leave off lots of family members.  But now we're thinking it would be a prefect place for a buffet-style RD where we could spread out.  The space is beautiful, and they have a neat little balcony which overlooks the water/Bond St Wharf and Fells Point.  It's a historic inn, at the corner of Broadway and Thames in Fells Point.  Adorable, and has /> 80 guest rooms very reasonably priced!

So there's my two cents of input :)  God luck!  Let us know what you decide!

And holy spelling mistakes! Sorry about that!  I always do that on here... need to learn to spell-check before posting.  And usually I'm so anal about stuff like that!

Thanks for the suggestions!  I've been to Rusty Scupper once before and I'm not sure it's the atmosphere my fiances parents wanted, but Admiral Fell Inn looks really cool - I'll def check that one out.

We had our rehearsal dinner and brunch at JPauls in the Inner Harbor. We never thought of it until eating there one day. They have a room off to the side of the main dining area with a whole glass wall facing the Inner Harbor. It made for great pictures and great view. The food was delicious and heard nothing but compliments. It was a good way to start out the wedding weekend.

I hope this helps you too!

We got married at Admiral Fell.   I didn't eat much that day, but all of our guests LOVED the food.  It's all I heard about the next day.

I will warn you though, we went through 3 different catering managers/points of contact during our planning process.  I realize that sometimes that is common with a long engagement/planning but we did all our planning in a little over three months.

All three were fine to work with, but needless to say there were some crossed signals because some things were approved by one person, and the others never knew. The day of there were a few minor details that were "forgotten" because of the lack of continuity.  Of course, our guests never noticed, and loved the food (and the view!).

So if you do decide to go with them, you'll get a great meal, just make sure you get copies of everything in writing just in case your contact up and quits :-)

    Hope that helps!

p.s. We did our rehearsal dinner at John Stevens in Fells Point.  We had 36 people,  and had plenty of room on the outside patio (it was November, so the patio area was tented and heated).  In the summer months, the tent would be gone and you could have the whole patio to yourselves.  There's a brick wall separating you from the street and everyone outside, so it's quite nice!  The food was great there too... I think we sent our guests home from our wedding weekend a few pounds heavier :-)

We considered the Scupper, but because we're having a lot of folks for our rehearsal dinner, we decided to have the RD at O'Bryckis instead.  It's right outside of Fell's Point in a little bit of a sketchy part of the neighborhood, but the inside of the restaurant is quaint and not too formal.  They have a private area that they can expand or minimize depending on your party size, and the catering menu (including alcohol, even given additional upgrade pricing) is not too terribly expensive, and guests get a lot of choices.  In my opinion, it has a good local Baltimore feel, and the food is good.

Have you thought about the following:
    McCormick & Scmhick (Inner Harbor)
    Capital Grille (Inner Harbor)
    Brewer's Art (Mt Vernon)
Abacrombie Fine Foods (Mt Vernon, although the place is a bit small)
    Regi's (Federal Hill)
    Ryleighs (Federal Hill)
    James Joyce (Harbor East)

I know some of the places I've listed are somewhat pricey but just wanted to brainstorm a bit for you!  I love restaurants!

Thanks for all the responses!  I'm going to call around some today and I'll let you know what happens.  If this helps with recommendations...our budget for the rehearsal dinner is $3,000 for around 45 ppl (so $66 per person including alcohol).  Don't ask me how the rehearsal dinner guest list for my 120 guest wedding got so long...
