Question about BM dresses and flowers

Been lurking around for awhile, and decided to post, because I'm trying to figure things out.  Planning on getting married June 2013, and we've decided on black, white, and burgundy (wine) for our colors.  The BM dresses are going to be the wine color at David's Bridal, quite likely a strapless, floor-length gown, and I'm planning on going with Black Magic and white roses for the bouquets.  I've never seen a Black Magic rose in person, only in photos, but they seem to be a deep, deep red.  I'm worried about the flowers clashing with the wine colored dresses.  Has anyone actually seen these put together?  Would they look okay, or do I need to find another, deep-red rose?

Re: Question about BM dresses and flowers

  • I've never seen the Black Magic rose either, but I am not a flower person. My short Google search shows some really nice dark black-red roses, so I'm guessing those are it. If so, I think that shade with white roses should go well with burgundy dresses since you won't see much red in the bouquet itself. However, I don't see a "burgundy" or "wine" color on the David's Bridal website - just one called "apple."

Have you already seen dresses in that particular color at DB? And out of curiosity, are you breaking up the BM bouquets with any greenery?

You've got some time to figure it out. Maybe call around to a few florists and ask if they carry it? That way you can view them in person and maybe get a price on them, too.

The dress I like for the BMs is very similar to this:
    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/5/c868e8c4-3adc-424f-a5c9-b0a933ad0cc0.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" class="PhotoLink"> <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/5/c868e8c4-3adc-424f-a5c9-b0a933ad0cc0.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>
but with a rhinestone brooch where the ruching is gathered.  This is the David's Bridal wine color.  Hopefully that helps with the color visualization.  :)

I'm planning on doing my flowers myself, and getting them through Sam's Club (I can get 250 roses in the colors I want for less than $300, and keep my entire floral budget under $300-$350!)  I'm trying to keep costs low on the things I know I can easily do myself (save the dates, invitations, flowers, etc.) so I can put more into the bigger things, like catering, dress, rings, etc.

Right now, I'm trying to find a florist that has some of the Black Magic roses in stock, but so far I seem to be stuck, no one keeps them in.  I live in a very small-town type of area, so that kind of rose tends to be something they only order in for (surprise, surprise!) weddings.  Go figure.  *L*

Also, to answer the question about greenery, not planning on it at this point.  What I'm wanting is something more like this:
    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/15/13/2fc8482e-8c0d-462c-ad04-0feb1bd4667f.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" class="PhotoLink"> <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/15/13/2fc8482e-8c0d-462c-ad04-0feb1bd4667f.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>
This was what I came up with searching for Black Magic and white rose bouquets.  :)

Ok, well, it sounds like you've got a great plan! And a sweet deal on the flowers, too! Based on those pictures, I think they'll look great together! Good luck trying to track down that flower! Maybe with fall season and holidays coming up someone might have them - their color and name just makes me think of Halloween and vampires haha, but could totally see them with elegant holiday weddings, too! I'm being hopeful for you! :)

Thanks!  I know Sam's Club's website lists them as being available, so getting them won't be a problem.  I just wasn't sure of the color coordination.  ^^  Always nice to have other people's opinions!  Thanks again!  Definitely going to continue to try and find some of them in person to see though!

  • I took swatches of my dress colors to my florist appt.  The guy said that was very helpful for picking flowers and ribbon.

Personally, I think they would clash, but I'm weird and won't do certain colors together.
