Keeping-the-buffet-line-short etiquette (WR)

What's the usual way to make sure that the buffet line doesn't get to long? Do I just have the MC/DJ announce something like "Table A, please help yourself to the buffet"?

Oh and just for the lulz, I asked The Google, and this was the #1 hit for "wedding buffet line short" (no quotes):

  • I agree with the previous posts of two lines or releasing tables. At my cousins wedding a staff member from the catering co. came to our table and very nicely and quietly told us to line up after the previous table was finished, which I thought was much nicer than having an announcement. As a guest I liked it this way. It was nice to have our whole table seated and eating at the same time instead of half eating half waiting in line.

  • My friend's DJ did a game at her wedding which made it fun. He would play a short snippet of a song and the first table to guess it would go next. The songs he chose were from different decades so that every age group was able to participate. On paper it sounds a little cheesy, but it was actually a lot of fun and a good way to break the ice.

  • The way that my fiancee and I are handeling this is the MC is going to play a game with the guests. He is going to release the bridal party and then start asking questions about my fiancee and i and our relationship. The table that gets the questions right get released and depending on if the line is going fast or slow determines if he asks a hard or easy question.
